I've been surfing for some answers and this forum looks friendly and I hope some of you will find the patience to help me. My name's Greg and here's my situation: My 2 sons and I would like to get our feet wet with a couple of recurve bows. It's to keep it simple and discover whether archery is something we want to pursue further. We have the land to practice all we'd care/need to. I can't seem to find a shop that has anyone knowledgeable to help me. We are fairly big men; 6'7", 285 for oldest, 6'4" 200 for youngest, 6'4" 250 for me. About what size recurve, draw weight, pull length, should I consider that would be appropriate for us to practice with and if we like it; also make for good beginner hunting. I hope I'm not imposing to drop in and ask so much general info. I will check back a couple times a day to see if you guys might help me out and if I need to provide more info to get help. Thanks Greg
You may try the traditional section on this site and pick Gmatt's brain a little. Im sure he would be glad to help you and your family with any questions. He is a recurve (traditional) hunter. Welcome to the forum.
I guess the "fairly" is a relative thing. Ya got me laughing now, I will repost to the advised section. Thanks for pointing me there. Greg
being tall like me, you will most likely want to go with a recurve that is 60" long or longer. 58" may be fine but you will need to try it out. try and find someone near you that has recurves or go to a traditional shoot. there are always very friendly people that are willing to let you shoot their bows. you may wish to check out a traditional only site? this site is great and has alot of friendly people, but few are traditional shooters and hunters. may i suggest tradgang.com. really nice people, no arguing or putting others down, and if you find someone living near you thay may let you shoot their bows and get you and your sons off and rolling, good luck
hunterace is right i believe TRADGANG is an all traditional sight that is pretty popular for GOOD info.
Thanks, I'm looking at that site now (tradgang). I'll explore it and see if they're helpful. You all sure have jumped in to get me started. Thanks
That's what we're here for... just becareful...No one here can be held responsible for your Debt... lol.
Nah.....I was on the treadmill, Frank. You? (lol) You'll get great advice in the trad forum, hog. Welcome aboard.
I sense what you are getting at Jeff, you know as a joke, not appreciated. IYou and I don't know each other well enough to joke around like that so I would appreciate it if you would not. My initial reply was nothing to be hurtful. Just pointing out that you reply to everything seconds after it is posted and the fact that you are a born again recurve guy who has a self proclaimed wealth of knowledge in the Traditional forum. Not that I can't take a fat joke (by the way real original, treadmill joke for fat guy). BTW, I have a sense of humor about that trust me no worries there but with my friends. But we are not friends like that. No offense. I was going to PM you but I from what I hear those get twisted from there original intent so I figured I would reply here. So like I said NO WORRIES. but this ends here. Thanks for your understanding Jeff/GMMAT.
Well, Frank.....your initial "response" wasn't very appreciated, either. Your less-than veiled further comments are just petty. I'll let my traditional accomplisments stand on their own merits. If you find fault in my postings, that's fine! Point them out. "Ends here"? Hell it never should have started!....lol You're right. "No worries". I'm not.....hope you aren't.
ok children let the tension stay on your bows not the forum page now lol , eek not insulting anyone...... Cammos up n goes n hides , btw woot for recurves lol i been hunting with my 52lb recurve for 7 yrs now lol
