Hey guys, I have been reading around on here for a couple weeks now. Even after I joined I lurked some more & read some more before making this. Tons of great info & experienced guys on here for me to learn from. With that being said here is a little about myself. My name is Mike, married with 2 daughters, I'm 29yrs old, been married 7yrs & going strong thank god. Live out in Skiatook,Ok which is about 30 minutes North of Tulsa. I'm a draftsman designing pressure vessels in the oil/gas industry. I'm new to shooting a bow & hunting in general. As a kid I used to shoot a little cheap bow at my uncles house when I would visit & he took me hunting a couple times but we never got anything, he wasn't a tree stand kinds guy, he liked to stalk. I hadn't shot a bow in easily over 10yrs when I got to talking to my cousin (same uncles son) about wanting to start hunting. He just started bow hunting this season and got himself a bow. So this really got me going cause now I had someone to hunt with as well as learn about bows with. Luckily he had picked up a bow for free from a friend of his & it was too short a draw. Well after pulling his bow back I realized his was too long & he handed me the free one he had bought. Draw was perfect so he just gave it to me. I took it to BassPro & had them check it out for me to make sure it was safe. Come to find out its a PSE Deer Hunter with 27" draw which sets it at about 55lbs. Its missing the production sticker on the limb so we don't know exactly what year model it is though. I had to get the string waxed, rubber hose to align the peep, release & arrow rest & it was ready to shoot. So I got into it for about $100 total after buying (6) cheapo Walmart carbon arrows & field tips to practice with. Sights were way off at first so I started reading/watching videos of how to sight it in. Now its shooting 6" diameter groups at 20yrd. I'm happy with it but know I could be better with better form & more bow time. I'm excited about learning everything I can on here. I'll get a few pics of the new to me bow up tomorrow for you guys. I'm so glad my cousin helped me out & got me into a bow for cheap. I have really enjoyed shooting it out in my yard so far. I even bought my daughters a little Bear recurve from BassPro so they could start shooting with me.
Welcome to the site! Tons of knowledgeable people on here(Im not one of them) but be sure to ask tons of questions! Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk 2
Thankx for the welcome guys. So far I'm really enjoying this bow & forum. I gotta admit I did make a beginner mistake the other evening, lol. I went out to my target & lined up at my marked 20yrd spot. Got an arrow ready, drew, lined it up, let it fly & like magic it disappeared. I heard it hit what sounded like the target & I assumed it buried in the foam since there are a few spots I have hit so many times that they will bury deep in there. So I got another & down range it went. Same thing, so I fire another just thinking I'm driving tacks in that same area. When I walk to the target not a single stinking arrow is in it. I must have missed all 3 times & been hitting trees in the background. At least I have woods to stop the arrows. I couldn't for the life of me figure it out cause the previous day I had just got it sighted in & shot about 20 times from 20yrds & was on the money. So after about an hour of arrow searching I gave up & went back out to my 10yrd line to check my sights again. At 10yrds it was dead on, moved to 15yrds & same thing, dead on. Walked back to 20yrds & now its on target. I'm guessing its a flaw in my form or something. Definitely showed me I got alot more bow time ahead before I'm gonna be ready to actually hunt. I'm learning though & that is whats important. I know it'll take time to get the consistency I want. I plan on shooting all winter/spring/summer though to get ready for next season. Right now my target is one of those foam blocks from Walmart sitting on the ground. I'm planning on upgrading to a 3D deer target instead to get used to a deer in my sight instead of a bulls-eye & to get it up off ground level.
Sorry I haven't got the pics up yet guys, I'll get some this weekend for sure. I know I'll have it out shooting tonight & tomorrow.
