No arguement there. You know tOSU has 6 BCS bowl wins right? You know, more than any other NCAA program.
He was the fans # 1 choice. There is a lot of politics involving hiring coaches for universities. (As I am sure you know) I live 15 minutes from The Youngstown State University where he won all those National Championships in the 90's. Everyone here loves Tress.
You may be a bit young, but this is how it went down. Jan. 1: Ohio State loses to South Carolina 24-7 in the Outback Bowl. Jan. 2: Head coach John Cooper fired after 13 seasons (111-43-4). Jan. 4: Ohio State's advisory committee meets; A day after he wins the national championship Orange Bowl, Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops is rumored to be on OSU's wish list. Jan. 5: Minnesota gives OSU permission to speak with head coach and OSU alumnus Glen Mason. Pittsburgh turns down permission to speak with former Cooper assistant Walt Harris, who says he's not interested. Jan. 8: Longtime Buckeyes assistant Fred Pagac interviews for the job with AD Andy Geiger while in Atlanta for a coaches convention. Jan. 9: Mason, Youngstown State head coach Jim Tressel and Stanford head coach Tyrone Willingam interview in Atlanta. Jan. 10: Former Buckeyes player and Columbus radio host Chris Spielman interviews at Geiger's home. Jan. 12: Harris takes himself out of consideration. Jan. 13: Stoops, since rumored for the Cleveland Browns job, tells fans at an Oklahoma basketball game he is staying with the Sooners. Jan. 14: Willingham, who does not reveal whether he was ever an official candidate, says he's staying at Stanford. Jan. 15: Oregon head coach Mike Bellotti, previously only mentioned in rumors, tours the Ohio State campus with Geiger. Jan. 16: Oakland Raiders head coach Jon Gruden withdraws his name from consideration for the Ohio State head coaching job. Bellotti withdraws as well. Jan. 17: Tressel hired as head coach, and will be introduced Jan. 18.
I wasn't that young. I was born in 1980, that would have made me 21 years old in 2001 when Tress was hired. Tress was # 1 in the hearts of everyone here where I live. He is a living legend, a man of folk lore in NE Ohio. You could name anything in my area after him and it would be welcomed with open arms.
Did he not get into NCAA trouble at Youngstown as well...I am not stirring the pot, but I could have sworn I remember hearing about something.
Not that I recall. He hasn't got into trouble at tOSU either. What those kids did has nothing to do with Tress.
UK basketball? No sir. I am a casual fan of buckeye basketball. I do not keep up with ncaa basketball much at all.
That was a different time. A lot has changed in 1-2 generations. Mostly the fault of those two generations as well. But that is another topic altogether.
Two generations later Woody still would have smacked them I knew Harbaugh was going to diss us, being we(Carr) dissed him first. Payback is a *****
And I said more than once I would be shocked if he wasn't in the NFL. Until Harbaugh gives his reasons why he didn't go to Michigan, you are not "right". So there. You know I hate to spread rumors, BUT...I heard Lloyd was secretly coaching the defense during the RR era. He lost weight and they had a special mask made so he would look like Robinson. He wants to make sure the program is still sinking. My uncle's brother's cousin is Lloyd's neighbor, so he knows.
He sure did not have any recruits worth a damn on the field besides Mike Martin BTW Robison is the worst defense coach I have ever seen, he makes Llyod look like a stud!!!
Well, YEAH! Thats why Lloyd did such a bad job as the Robinson impersonator. Makes his time there look even better. Duh.
Sure he has been bad with the clock a couple times... But, why the dislike for him? He has brought LSU to places they have never been. He has had some great seasons, and recruited very well for LSU.
