Wife bought me a Moultrie M80 for Christmas. I have tested it in the yard today and the still pics are excellent. The videos are a little grainy but still very good. I got some IR vids and pics and it looks as if I better make sure that I place the unit a little farther from the trail than I normally do. The IR flash may be the brightest I've ever seen. From what I've seen so far, I think this is gonna be a really nice unit. I will be putting it in the wild this week so in a couple of weeks I will have some vids and pics from it. I have 2 of them and i am not happy with them, slow trigger speeds, way to bright ir almost white lighting from mine and i have seen deer and turkeys stand in front of my cams and have no pics on the cam at all. I have even put three layers of green film in front of the ir lights trying to tone the flash down.
I got a Moultrie D55 IR under the tree today. I'll try it tomorrow, I hope. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
When I was at the archery shop in town the other day he told me Moultrie discontinued the M80. Too bad I thought Moultrie finally made a decent camera from what I had heard.
I can see where the IR flash may be a problem if the subject is too close. It's definately bright. As for the trigger speed, I checked it last night after dark and it actually triggered before I could get directly in front of it. I was pleasently suprised that a Moultrie had that kind of trigger speed. I know it's cold right now but the sensing distance seemed to be pretty exceptional as well. I'm anxious to get it in the woods where we'll see how it does in the real world. I really wanted it because it's a small unit that will do video with audio. I plan on using it mainly in the video mode. Blessings......Pastorjim
I am going to buy another cam within the next two months, but can't make up my mind. I'm leaning towards the m-80. I would like to know what the battery life is like, and how it performs in colder temps. Keep us posted .
Id tell you there great for $120 however id get a lot of S*** for saying that because a lot of guys dont seem to agree with me.
I like em, I don't have enough money to be dishing out major cash for a single cam. So I got 3 of these and they work fine, if I can see the pic and distinguish what I'm looking at, then well.. I'm happy lol. But like others said the IR is bright!
I have one and I think it takes great pics and video, the only issue I have with it is it may be too sensitive and takes alot of photos of wind so I place a large memory card in it so it doesnt fill up to soon, I think its a very nice cam.
I guess I can see why some people dont like them they can be a bit blurry but IMO it's not bad enough to call it a bad camera.
I think you'll like it overall. The bright IR flash worries me as the deer definately notice it however I haven't seen any run off yet.
Anything goes to an extreme will have side effects. The over-bright illmuniation of M80 brings the side effect of short battery life, over-exposed pictures, very noticeable lighting, and motion blur. M80 achieves the brightness by reducing a 5MP sensor to a 2MP, as such, the resolution is greatly reduced. With 2MP, you don't see much detail at 40 feet. When people buy a camera, they often forget the battery cost -- it's like you forgot that the camera has, say, a 60% more tax on using the camera than other more power efficient cameras. Short battery life means that you may need to go to the woods more often to check it out, so adding another 120% gas tax.
The cold weather is sure hard on this cams batterys I pulled two sets yesterday that had only been out for two weeks less then 30 pics and video and dead as a hammer. They worked alright during the summer but i am still concerned about the missed game.
I am using rechargeables mostly so we will see what happens. The camera has been out about a week and a half now and I'm going to check it at the end of this week. I'll admit I have high hopes for this camera for several reasons. First, I like the size and I also like the fact that it will record audio with the video. I tested it in my yard before I put it out and I did see that the flash was so bright that it would be possible to wash out the subject if it were too close. I kept that in mind when I mounted the camera, mounting it a little further back than I normally would have. I have been impressed with the daytime pics from most Moultries and think they have great colors. I also like that it takes a picture before it takes a video when in the video mode. I plan on using it exclusively in the video mode as I have twenty other cameras that will take stills. Blessings.......Pastorjim
