I have an older sony camera with 12mp.

I am in the market for a new camera one with a better zoom and more MP

I was wondering which is the best for my money, or what you are using?

I am going to buy the Sony Alpha or the Cannon Rebel. I am not sure which one is the best for the money. I would like to stay under 700. I know that with the 18mp that is going to be hard to do but hey I figure someone might know where to find one. I would like to get atleast a 15-55 lens if not something greater.

What camera do you use and why?

Are you looking for something compact or more of a DSLR model? We went DSLR last year, and now there is no looking back.. the comparison in quality is unmatched..

Canon Rebel - been using primarily Canons since the 70's (35mm and digital). To me when you have quality that you are happy with, there is no sense in changing just to be changing. I still shoot a Canon Rebel XT 10m that I've used since 2004 or 2005.

Well mine just does not have the zoom quality that I want.
My sister has a sony alpha and they really like it. But I am not a huge sony fan just because of all the software you have to download on the cpu to edit it

The MP is not what makes for good pictures. The MP just allows you to blow clear photos that are larger. Get you a Nikon or a Canon around 10 or 12 MP an a good lens. A lens in the 18-105 mm with the VR would do for around camp pictures an some real close up shots in the woods. As far as taking pictures of deer or something that is 100 yards away you need a 200 mm or 300mm an a steady hand.
