Anyone that's making a big deal over half a pound should list their accessories or carry one less candy bar in the woods. It's not as big of a deal as people make it out to be.
Weight matters? This always makes me chuckle, even the defense or justification of a 1/2 lb or less.... LOL, I've been bowhunting for over 30 years and the last thing that concerns me is "weight"... and if you don't believe that the heavier the better to a degree is crazy, talk to target archers on which one makes the shot. You won't see too many featherweight bows on the line... I used to shoot a Jennings Carbon Extreme XLR, that's an anchor of a bow, shot fantastic and never kept me out of the woods... LOL And yes, I've trumped the mountains above 10,000' elevation with bow in hand chasing bull elk.
Yes you can save weight by carrying less things or accessories, but you cant take weight of the base weight of the the bow...so a half pound is a half pound that cant stay home. And when your full draw and a trophy is hung up and your holding an extra minute a full draw for him to take that step....your not only holding the draw weight...you holding the mass wight with your bow arm too....4 pound vs 5 is 20%....20 % that I dont need. Let then target Archers carry that extra 2 pound bow up over a steep ridge when their lungs are screaming and their legs are like lead, and the hunt is on the line.
.5 pound is 10%. What are your accessories. I know plenty of guys carrying "light" bows with heavy accessories on them, making the base weight of a bow mute. I have two bows that are exactly the same but with different accessories that are night and day different in weight. I hunt with both of them, but when I want a light bow, I don't shop for a bow with a low base weight, I dress the bow that shoots the best differently.
Weight isn't a concern for me at all. I shoot a bow with a little weight to it (accessories included), much better than a light weight rig. My 07 Allegiance is very light and I ended up having to add weight to my stabilizer to give it more weight. Almost all of your popular stabilizers these days are light, too light, IMO. Most don't weight much more than 4-5 oz. So with a little more mass weight on the bow, these stabs should be about right. I agree with most here. If 6-8 oz of added weight on a bow is a concern.. hit the weight room. This bottle of beer I'm drinking right now weighs more than that! LOL
Its not up in the stand that's the problem for me with the ATA, Its the walk in with all the low shrubbery around here. I do a lot of holding the bow above my head when walking in so a lighter bow is welcomed in that sense. Plus when Trial said that bows get carried more than shot, that makes sense also. I don't care about weight if I'm shooting in the backyard, but climbing 100% grades for a couple hundred feet isn't the easiest with a heavy bow. Anything sub 7" brace height doesn't appeal to me either. I look for more like 7.5". So that throws out the new bow right there. And looks don't really matter the most, your right, but anyone that says it has absolutely no bearing on their bow choice is full of it. PS: I just bought a S&W M&P in .40 its a beaut.
I think the point is, we're talking about a few ounces here, not pounds. I'm sorry, but I do not buy the statements saying that a bow that weighs 6-8oz more than another is a problem carrying.
the weight thing makes me giggle. my First three bows weighed more bare than my current dinosaur (diamond justice) does loaded. Just incentive to stay in shape lol. Cant wait to shoot one, I will hold off on my opinion till then
I was going to pick up my phone and respond to this thread, but it weighs almost 6 oz. Too heavy. I had to get up and walk over to my computer. Now I'm tired from walking.
I grabbed Troy's 350 when he was here and was surprised how heavy it was compared to my Bear Assult. It wasn't just a 6 oz in difference with everything on it verses mine with everything on it. No wonder the Moutntain Man is in such good shape lugging that boat anchor up and down those mountains. :p Tim
He's just incredibly talented at picking up on weight differences, Troy... :p Your Destroyer weighs 4.1 lbs, while his Assault weighs 3.9
I was going to buy an Iphone but it felt like it weighed ounces more than the DroidX and I wasn't going to lug that around with me.
Dang, my favorite bow, the one I have been using all season during my 1/2 to 1 mile one way hikes to hunt, weighs 4.5 pounds.
Perhaps the guys saying weight is a huge factor are the Matthews guys? We all know whatever Matthews decides is important should be considered gospel.
Mathews is spelled with one "t". :D For you Bowtech fanboys, here's a video we shot at ATA. Enjoy! http://www.bowhunting.com/videos/New-Products/Bowtech-Insanity-CPX-Bow_1417
Correct you are! With the one t in Mathews anyway. You however didn't capitalize the T in BowTech. lol Sorry...I had to.
You BowTech junkie !! How am I suppose to bust Troy's chops if you keep throwing in tidbit facts that he didn't need to know ??? Anyways it is a very slim 3.8999 lbs... they just rounded up to 3.9 to make you BowTech cultists feel better about your boat anchors. :p Tim
