Hey guys I've got two questions for you. I have had and have been consistently shooting a Bowtech 82nd Airborne for a few months now and probably got about 700 shots through it. My groups are solid out to 50, and even 60 yards on good days but I am almost always just left of my intended target. I feel like I have a good grip on the bow. Sometimes I can tell I grip it a little harder at the shot but my better releases are still slightly left. Any ideas on why this might be? And question 2. Will shooting my arrows into a target numerous time effect the spine of them enough to affect accuracy? Any advice or opinions would be great. I plan on taking and heading into the nearest shop but my car broke down today so I thought I'd see what you guys thought.
as far as shooting a little left it could be 1 of 3 things. shooting at 50 and 60 yards is going to tell you how accurate you bow is set up and then you can fine tune it. 1. how much wind is blowing? full value and half value wind can make the arrow not hit the mark depending on mph 2. most sight are mico adjustable. this is were it comes into play 3. rest. same as #2
welcome to the site if you are constantly shooting left by a few inches move your sight to the left. Remember when adjusting the sight to ALWAYS FOLLOW the arrow
i am missing at 50 yards about 5-6 inches with good groups. I have moved my sight some but it's getting close to being maxed out left. About half to a quarter of an inch left I can move it still. Doesn't seem like the sight should have to be moved that far over but maybe i'm wrong. montana black gold flashpoint 7-pin. I guess the years and years of golf have made me into the kinda person that knows good form and knowledge of the basics goes a long way in being good at any sport though so I want to try to get my form down before I start just making it look good on paper.
Have you tuned your bow? I would check and make sure you have center shot and everything lined up with your rest, then go back and readjust your sights.
Welcome, what part of Montana are you from? I just moved from Missoula. If your hitting dead on at your ranges 40 yard and in, and hitting left from 50 on out, my guess would be that you are canting your bow. In other words your are leaning it.
Yep had it tuned. I'm from Missoula by the way Backcountry. Well I'll just keep working on it on my own till I get my car back then.
Did you have the bow tuned at the archery center of montana? If so, did they tune it? or you? If they said they tuned it, i'm betting they didn't. I have fixed A LOT of their mistakes in the past and am not to impressed with their customer service, with the exception of a couple of their guys. If you get a chance take it down to Wholesale Sports, old Sportsman's Warehouse. I worked there in the Archery department for a few years prior to moving this spring. Neal, Jason, or Paul will get you set up. Good Luck! PM if you need any help with some public lands areas to use your 5 doe tags for GMU 260-10
If you had well shot groups going left at 40 I'd say it might be your center shot. Try setting up a tall target and place a circle at the top and run tape directly verticle of the circle down the target. Go to 20 and with your 20 yard pin shoot dead center top circle; go to 30 and with your 20 yard pin shoot dead center top circle; go to 40 and with your 20 yard pin shoot dead center top circle. Granted, you must be on your game, but if you see a pattern left or right of the verticle tape adjust your rest not your sight and you should have your true center shot. If you have true center shot at 40 then its your shooting form at 50 and 60.
Ya I had the guys at the Archery center do it and I shot my bow for a while and just looking at the alignment of my rest, to my string and arrow it looked off. I took it to the Elusive Moose in Victor and of course it was way off. They were extremely helpful and they just gave me a lot of good info.
