I just bought a TEN POINT crossbow. It's 5 years old. My friend bought it new, shot about 40 bolts through it, and it has been stored since he bought it. The cable has been waxed and stored. There's a really thick coating of wax over the string. Question: do I really need to buy a new string or would it be ok to use since he only shot it about 40 times. NO fraying of the string...no wear signs. Like I said...it has been stored with a great deal of wax covering it. I shot about 6 bolts through it and it seems fine. Any ideas? Thanks.
First off welcome to the site! My suggestion would be to take it to a local shop have them check it out. Since it has been sitting for so long it isn't worth an accident if something is wrong even if you don't see it. And since you are just getting into the sport it is always good to get a relationship going with a local shop. Sure he will charge you a bit for a checkup but that would be nothing compared to an accident with your crossbow.
