Yesterday, I got finally got my new bow, and today I actually got to shoot it. I just spent about $1400 on a beatiful new Mathews Monster equipped with many cool accessories. For the record, I used my old sight (G5 4 pin-floater-.029), and it does not yet have a case because my old SKB compact is about 1/2 inch too short on every side. I did A LOT of research on this websight and others to finally make up my mind on the bow and all the accessories. I fell in love with the Monster even though a lot of people are quick to criticize it. Beside that, I went ahead and did something very unusual to a Mathews, I covered it in Fuse accessories. Fuse is Hoyt's sister company. Their products really impressed me, and really met the criteria that I was looking for. Here is a quick list of the Fuse accessories I used: 1. Fuse stringstop 2. Fuse Ventera full length 5-arrow 3. Fuse 12" carbon connexion target stabilizer in camo (special order-not advertised-very cool!!) Other products include: G5 meta peep 3/16, true flight glove release, braided wrist sling, and a kisser button(unknown). Arrows were a real toss up to me. We all know that arrow selection is a very dynamic process, and it seemed to be even more so with such an aggressive cam stroke. So, I decided to TRY the Easton Axis Nano (Black), they have the very slim shaft with hidden inserts. Anyway, this is the only product that I am not completely satisfied with. I shot every arrow (12) each time at a brand new McKenzie Large Deer just to make sure each arrow was up to par. To my surprise, 4 hidden inserts decided to hide inside the target. I pulled out an empty tube with no point or insert. That sucks, and i'm going back to the shop to get them re-done. I do know that epoxy is used, and I will keep you guys updated on this situation. The specs: 1. 28 1/2 draw 2. 340 Easton axis nano cut at 27 3/4 3. Poundage will be determined by accuracy, arrow flight, and physical tolerences (in that order). I had it set up @ 65lb but today I maxed it out (estimated 73lb) and the arrows were still flying very true and accurate. I will probably decide the final poundage tomorrow after doing some more trials at further distances (40 and 50 yards). 4. speed is fast but unknown at this time 5. broadhead flight is also unknown at this time but is very-very important to me! 6. Almost forgot about the QAD ultra-rest. So far, so good. It seems to be dropping away just fine reguardless of the high arrow speed. I think I might be detecting a small spring-like noise coming off it, but I'm not really sure and it is very minute anyway. I am obviously giddy about my new 2-wheeler and I hope that i can bring some useful tips and experiences to those who are shooting similiar set-ups. Hopefully pics will also happen soon!
Dang lost another comrade to Matthews... Congrats, I'm just partial to Bowtech. Nothin' like a a new rig! Happy shootin'
Thanks fellers! I sure have been waiting on this for a while, I just graduated the police academy and this was my personal present. I can't wait to show you guys the pics because it looks as cool as it shoots! However, I've never posted a pic before, so i'll have to giturdun!
Ha! Will do tomorrow guys, even though it's my sixth anniversary, I will critique a bow setup and download pics for the first time. Seriously, I will try my best but other things might have to come first. However, I will do my best to get it done tomorrow!
Today, 2 more inserts pulled out. I went to the shop, and he re-inserted 6 arrows with standard epoxy instead of the HIT epoxy. I'll keep you guys updated on the difference. I shot at 50 yards and absolutely crushed the target! I pin gap on my sight is awsome. The 40-50 gap is damn near touching. That is the reason I bought this bow. Yardage estimation is no longer a huge factor at ethical distances. Photo Bucket might happen tomorrow!
