Hey friends. So i am new to bows and such. I have some concern about my new bows string. Its a brand new PSE Stinger 3G. Froms what I have tallied I ve shot roughly 60 rounds @ 6 arrows a round. I know that the string needs wax which I have done after the 3 times I have been out due to my concerns. The pro shop recommended I wax it and said its normal but I went to another range and a guy shooting by me seen it and said that it shouldn't been doing that. The string just above my peep sight and just above the serving by my vibration damper looks to be changing to a very light color. Once wax is applied it darkens some but after shooting it returns to the light color. My major concern is that it appears that it is frayng in these same spots. Is this really normal? I don't know the quality of the string that PSE uses from the factory either.

Thanks for any help in advance, its much appreciated.

Irregardless of how it looks a string shouldn't be fraying in any location after 60 shots. Some things to check, burring on the peep, or the cam if the fraying is up into the cam....I would also say contacting PSE for a replacement is a good idea however I would want to have identified the problem first to see if it is really a string quality issue or is something else causing it. wouldn't want to replace the string and have to go though it again.

It shouldn't do that. It sounds like the string has week spots in it. I'd probably get a new one or go trade that pse off on a Mathews would probably be the best decision:D

Are there any other pro shops around? Maybe a second opinion?

If they damaged the string putting the peep in, it may fray a bit. I don't think this would necessarily hurt it, however I'm the type that wouldn't want that on my new bow.

A picture would definitely help though, what device are you uploading from? If you click the surrounding to this site you'll go to mathewsinc since they are the sponsor surrounding. My phone does this sometimes because it doesn't like pop ups. Old browsers probably will as well.

Doubt mathews will every be in my budget. I tried selecting and uploading from my phone. The frays and discoloring is above the peep and annd above the vibration dampner. I hop on my cp tonight and see if I can get pics uploaded.

Is the string actually frayed (broken strands) or just have a fuzzy appearance? The pics will all but put this thing to bed.

That is just normal wear. String needs a good waxing. If possible find a square patch of leather. After applying the wax on the string, double the leather over the string and work it in via this technique. Ideally, the wax should get hot enough that you can't effectively work it in with fingers alone, hence the leather pad.

Hey thanks for the help! I can see how there would be a difference in the leather vs. Fingers.

That is semi-normal wear. Give it a good waxing. rub it in with your fingers pretty good. It also looks as though u may be hitting your arm or arm guard.

The strings on the new PSE Stinger 3G's are crap. If you get about 3 weeks on the factory strings you do well. I had to replace a set on my sons bow after he shot it for 3 weeks and did another a few weeks after that.
