I am planning on buying a new bow at months end if all goes as planned. I was looking at a new Hoyt Rampage XT.I currently shoot an old High Country 4Runner. I went to the shop and checked them out and shot one. It was pretty nice but the draw length on the one i shot was too long so i couldn't really "test" it. The owner of the shop was trying to make a sale right then and there but i wasn't ready just yet. Anyway, just wondering if anyone owned this bow or if anyone has something to say about it just let me know how it is. Also, are there any other bows i should check out that are in the same price range?
There was a guy buying the rampage xt the same time I was buying my xtreme. After it was set up he took it over to the range and had a robin hood within 15 minutes. As far as what bow... There are tons in that price range and lower. I love my z7 xtreme and would always recommend it. But as the next 10 replies will be, shoot all you can. Each bow has a different feel to the shooter.
A. I would go to a different shop if thats the only bow you shot and he was trying to make a sale then and there. B. I love the Hoyt Rampage XT and if I were able to afford it, I would have one in my case right now. C. Have one set up for you and then shoot it and decide. D. As stated by indynotch50, shoot more than just the Rampage in that price range then decide. I have my heart set on a Rampage XT but, when it comes to purchase time I will be shooting a ton of different bows before I fork out the doe on one. If I had an unlimited budget, I would buy the Hoyt Carbon Element or Matrix. Thats one bad A bow.
You owe it to yourself to shoot as many bows as possible before you buy. We can suggest things all day to you but a bow is a very personal choice. What feels right to one guy may feel quite different to another. If you can afford it, start with the higher end Hoyts, Mathews, Bowtechs, and PSEs and then go from there. But I wouldn't exclude any brand. That will just give you something to compare. Blessings......Pastorjim
I just got back from a another shop that sold Bowtech. I shot the Assasin and it was pretty nice but that was the only lefty bow they had that i could shoot....bummer. It's been difficult for me to test different bows because not many dealers have lefty in my draw length and weight. Im affraid im gonna just have to wing it when i make my final decision and hope for the best.
Ive owned PSE and High Country and shot them for many years. This is the first year I have owned a Mathews (Z9) and I absolutley love it!! If you havent shot one you owe it to yourself to shoot one. I really liked my High Country but Mathews seems like another level.
If you have a Mathews dealer near by and they have the Mission Craze. Try it out. $299 bare bow and sweet. I concure with pretty much everyone. Try as many as you can and then try em out some, and some more until you've found the one you like best. NEVER let a salesman rush or pressure you into a sale and if that sales person gives ya a hard let me know and me and some buddys will bring out a 2011 can of whoope ass on em! Not really, but thought it'd be fun.
I haven't shot the Rampage specifically, but it is similar to the turbohawk. The turbohawk was the same as the AlphaMax (flagship bow of the year) but with a cast riser instead of a machined riser. The machined riser will be stronger but it isn't necessary unless you plan on putting the bow through a ton of stress. If you want to stay in the mid-range of prices, the Rampage is going to be right there with all of them. It all really depends on which bow feels the best. I'm with you on shops not having lefty options to shoot. But I would do my best to find a shop with the bows in a lefty so that you can shoot it. I'm pretty sure that the Rampage has an adjustable draw so I would think that he could have changed the mods on the bow and let you shoot it. It sounds like the customer service there lacks. I have a shop about 20 minutes from my house but I am not confident in them to work on my bow. I drive a little over an hour to a shop that I trust.
