Ok, so here is the deal. When I was younger I owned a Bear compound. I loved shooting it. Never really got the chance to hunt anything with it. I do own an old bowhunting rig but rarely ever use it as the only thing around here to shoot at is gar fish... and I hate gar fish. lol

I am now an adult (that's what everyone tells me anyway :D) and want to get into compound bow shooting for a number of reasons. I like to hunt all kinds of animals. Deer, Hogs, Rabbits, Squirrels. I like target shooting but handgun/rifle ammo pricing is so ridiculous these days that I can either take five or six trips to the range within the next couple of months OR I can purchase a compound bow and setup and shoot for the next year without shelling out extra cash (after initial setup and such)

I won't be taking the bow into the deer woods for a while as I do not think I will feel comfortable shooting at a deer until I can get my technique down and skills sharpened. I also have nowhere to hunt for the time being.

I have narrowed the choices down to a few different bows. I still have yet to shoot any of them and will be doing that when I get a chance. I will make my final choice off of the feel of the bow and will factor in what I have read here on the errornet. I just wanted some opinions, comments, pointing and laughing... you know, the usual.

I have done quite a bit of homework and know that I should be looking for a bow with atleast 7 inches of brace and an axle length around 32. I have a draw length of 28.5 ". I do not know what draw weight I will go with yet but I am thinking 65 would be good. I know I can easily draw 60 and the last time I tried 70 it was a bit tough (It was also about ten years ago and I am much stronger now).

Here are the six that I have narrowed it down to in my price range. (Would rather buy new due to warranty and such)

    Bear Showdown
    PSE Stinger
    Martin Cheetah
    Parker Wildfire XP
    Bear Lights Out
    PSE Brute LT

If you have any experience with any of these bows, please share it. Any and all information, opinions and comments are deeply appreciated. Also, if you know of any bows that I am overlooking, please post that as well.

    Thanks!

Glad to hear you're wanting to get into the wonderful sport of bowhunting.

My only advice would be to go to a local shop and test out every bow you can get your hands on. You WILL be able to tell a difference as far as smoothness during draw, quietness/vibration, overall feel in your hand, etc....once you begin shooting a few.

Also, I'm a Bowtech fan. So if you see any of those in the shop...do yourself a favor and at least try them out. Good luck with your decision. It will be a difficult one but thats a good thing! :)

I picked up my first one in May. I looked at most of the ones you did for price as well. Ended up buying a Diamond Justice during a factory blowout and am VERY happy. I'd look at the Diamonds too.
www.huntersfriend.com has good packages, great prices and free shipping for you American fellas,

LOL Well, if only that were true :D:eek:

The two best pieces of advice on this page are: Go and actually shoot some bows and get a feel for what you like. Buy the most bow you can get for the money.

    haha not spending any money...ha

If your gonna by a nice bow..your looking at at least $300 to $400 Dollars..thats just the basics..wont come with anything on it...anything else you by it adds up

Hunting is not a cheap sport by no means....equipment, clothing, scent free stuff, stands, broadheads, arrows...it all adds up...

I dont even go near a proshop or ****s because i know ill have to buy something out of there..whether i need it or not....best just stay away..unless i absolutly need to...

Good luck in whatever you choose

And....dont make the same mistake i did....bout 4 years ago, i went in there and bought the first bow that looked good, because i was new to the sport. it was a martin...not a bad bow..but i would love to have one of these new bows, that so much more quiter, like a hoyt, or bear, pse....sucks that i didnt...
I have too much invested in this bow now..ill at least keep it for a few more years...

    My bow was around 325 $ arrows 100 $
New Viper site 85 $ blazer wraps and fletching 45 $
    Suppressor 40 $ S-coil 25 $
    limbsavors 20 $ Fall Away rest 80 $
    Release 40 $ Broadheads 40 $
    New Quiver 50 $

Grand Total = 850 $ Just this year....

Thats not counting the total cost of boots, clothes, spray, attractants, trail cameras, gloves, socks, hats, stands, climber, decoy, targets...

You dont really need all this stuff, but somewhere down the line if you get into it seriously, you will need most....if not all....

This is just me spending money when you really dont have to...all you really need is a bow and some arrows..do it up man...

I know about what it will cost up front. I have priced pretty much everything that I could think of and know that I can spend upwards of $450 on the bare bow. I went to cabelas and looked at sights, rests, quivers, releases and such.

Through talking to freinds that bowhunt I have pretty much decided on the Cobra Boomslang sight, QAD Ultra-Rest "Hunter", Alpine Soft Loc Quiver, Tru-Fire release, 5" Chubby Hunter Doinker, Sims Limbsavers, G5 Meta Peep.... and some arrows. :)

Im thinking that I can just fletch my own arrows after I figure out which ones I will go with. I know that once I set it up I can shoot it for at least a year (minus arrow wear and such) without having to change anything (unless something breaks).

I am a 1911 afficianado so I don't mind spending money on good products. I just can't justify spending much more that 450 on the bare bow.

As for the misc stuff, I have all I need minus a climber and a bow target.

I know I'm bringing this thread from the grave but you said a dang mouthful... I've since been through a Bear Truth II, Carbon Spyder 30, Elite Pulse, Nitrum 34 and just picked up a Carbon Defiant Turbo.. and enough camo, stands and other odds and ends to last a lifetime.. yowza lmao
