How do you guys feel about his? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry...hibernating-bears_us_58e93960e4b05413bfe36c1b
Could that article be any more slanted? The poor animals this that and the other thing, written by PETA. One there has to be more to the story then what this article leads you to believe 2 I personally wouldn't hunt a hibernating bear but if the locals feel the NEED to then go ahead.
I don't live in Alaska so I'm not sure I can make a fair opinion on the matter. I'm not familiar of the population of wolves or bears either. If they perhaps believe this is an effective way to manage their predators then maybe it isn't so bad. I would imagine the anti-hunters would have a hay day with this topic.
I would do some research and find to see if another source is reporting the story and read the different perspective before forming an opinion. The HP, is very biased and caters to the group of feminists that has no issue aborting a child but weeps when a rotwiler or pitbull gets put down.
I honestly couldn't find an article that wasn't from an anti group. I was more wanting peoples opinions on hunting hibernating bear. If I bought an Alaska bear tag, I would not be hunting hibernating bear, but if the locals feel the need to do it, then it must be warranted.
I agree 100%. Also I couldn't find an article that wasn't written from an anti hunting point of view.
If Alaska residents are the only ones doing it, not outfitters or out of state residents let them do it.
When is the season for Bear in Alaska? I would guess there is a number of animals they want harvested, I would hope that can be accomplished in a sporting manner but if not and the numbers have to be reduced, do what it takes. I like how they slip in using Helicopters into the story like somebody is shooting bear and wolves in caves from the Helo.
Notice there is no reference the to exact piece of legislation that was passed. That would make it too simple for a rationale person to go look up the details for themselves.
A slightly different perspective. http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...ting-limites-alaskan-wildlife-federal-n737411

To answer your question, I wouldn't hunt a hibernating bear in a den. sent from my mini hand held phone
See no difference in this and dip netting let them do it how they want as long as its regulated. I mean what is the difference if the lets say 6000 bear quota is filled by shooting over bait rather than the 6000 bear quota filled shooting out of hibernation? People from the outside too have to realize its a different world in some parts up there from the lower 48. I go fly fishing and to visit my uncle but He doesn't get to fly fish with me until he gets enough salmon dip netting to fill his freezer. Him and his family also need to get a moose and a caribou. They rely on this for their food and without it they would be hurting. Now if he can go out and get meat by shooting a hibernating bear I am not going to knock him for it. Ya I would like to fill my freezer too down here but if I don't get my deer turkey fish ect its not going to hurt me one bit ill get by just fine.
Sounds like Alaska has a bear population problem and needs to knock some back and what better way than having hunters PAY to reduce the numbers. If not 10 years from now they'll have pay snippers to do it. But I wouldn't do it. Still not sure I'd shoot a bedded buck. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Agree completely in taking this decision out of the federal government and leaving it up to the state. as sportsman I have no interest in killing a bear in its den. Now were I a subsistence hunter, the family hungry, and there's a bear in a den...how do you want that steak....
