Last Friday my wife and I took a 3 1/2 hour drive to pick up our chocolate lab pup. He's 7 1/2 weeks old, and we named him "Cash". We've been wanting a chocolate for quite some time, and managed to find a good breeder that wasn't too far away. Right now he's my wife's "wittle baby", but soon he will be my shed hunting partner, he will hopefully tag along on blood trailing deer with me, and be man's best friend of course. The shed dog training has already began, but if you guys have any tips, I'm all ears! Fellow bowhunters meet Cash:
Grats on the new pup. He will be a handful. We just bought a choc lab ourselves. He turned 4 months on the 26th. For training on shed hunting I've just taken antlers an stashed them around my property and I'll walk him around and let him find them and reward with treats. I do this about once a week and store all the antlers outside in the she'd and try and keep them as scent free of anything as possible. I don't hand then with out gloves. Seems to be working really well.
Thanks guys, yeah he has been a pretty big handful so far. He has really taken to the antlers, going to give it about a month and store placing them out in the yard and see how he does with finding them.
