I think I'm in the minority because I see and hear this a lot. I've noticed from posts and when I talk to my buddies about deer sightings/kills everyone seems to have the time down to the exact minute. I've seen stuff like "saw 3 does at 5:17". I killed my buck at 6:22" etc.... Everytime I tell someone about what I saw they ask what time it was. I have no clue I tell them. Somewhere around 6:00?? Is it just an automatic response to look at what time it is? It's the last thing on my brain at the moment. Just curious.
I look at what time i shoot a buck just because it gives me a idea of when Bucks are on the move also i will sometimes see what time deer start to show because it is a good idea of when the deer start to move.
If I'm videoing, I'll have the exact time, otherwise its a guess. When all is said & done, I try to get an accurate time for my hunting journal, but it's usually an estimation (+/- 10 min).
I shot my Buck at 3:17pm last year, I like to know what time I shot the deer at this way I know for sure how much time was given before I start a tracking job! He only ran 10 yards and I watched him die, so I gave him about 3 minutes before I tracked him!
I will check the time on my phone after the deer are gone. I don't want to move too much. I'll also check after making a shot so thats the only time I could pinpoint. Sighting times are 6:00ish, etc.
I also check the time for when i shoot the buck because i want to give the deer plenty of time so when i track it i don't push it
It's just habit to see what time I see deer. I don't necessarily go down to the minute. I usually estimate to the nearest quarter of the hour.
It's very Important If you ask me. That's the 1st question I ask when someone see's a mature buck let alone shoot one. It don't have to be to the exact minute and second but I like to know the approximate time.
yeah i text alot in my tree...on and off..when i see a deer..i know a relative time when i saw them..
I used to have a watch super glued to the limb of my bow, I Iike keeping exact details of time. Now with my cell phone I always check it right after a shot, usually am texting someone anyway.. So I pretty much know the exact time things go down. WhenI am filming I always have the exact time recorded.
If the deer is far off, I will glance at my clock immediately to check the time. If its in tight, I'll check as soon as it leaves (or if it is one that I don't want to shoot, I'll check while its there)
I check the time as well so I can log it in my journal. Sometimes it helps sometimes it doesn't, but it's what I do.
I guess I see where it could be benificial. I still don't think to the exact minute is needed. I check my phone for the time every now and then. And when I see deer I just guesstimate from the last time I checked the time. I never immediately grab my phone/look at watch to make sure I know though. For me it's more of a feel. Different "time frames" during the hunt. 1st hour, 2nd hour, saw one really late (morning hunt) early (evening hunt) etc...
I don't care what time it is exactly I just want to know when it is relative to daylight; 1/2 hour before dark, right at daybreak... in the dark on the way in!
I keep track of buck sightings by time, it keeps me informed about the pulse of what is going on. You can almost set your watch by some bucks.
