My oh my how in the world did we ever survive as hunters before the text messaging craze? lmao ... now that's some funny stuff.
99% of the time I text to my wife but its normally a very short convo, gloves are a pita to text with. Its usually something like her asking what I want for dinner or when will I be home. Since I hunt alone, I dont have to worry about breaking any laws. If I feel myself getting antsy or wanting to nod off, I will hop on bh.com and browse, but thats about it.
Completely, off topic but I can't help asking a question that just came to mind. Germ, would you "do" Wonder Women?
I text - guilty. Do I think it takes away from a it? Maybe. It is safety smart- no doubt. Interesting GMMAT. I can't imagine anyone ever getting in trouble for texting. Perhaps that rule will change in the next year or so? Personally, I think it's horse****.
I usually throw out one text to a few buds from here while getting settled in.. text after a shot or when done and back at the pickup. When I am bored I surf the internet on my phone..
Exactly.:D I never found Wonder Women hot but there is just something about that picture that changes my mind. Great, now I am in love with superheros.
Is deer driving fair chase? No. Is it legal? Yes. Some around here just consider that (deer drives) to be hunting and could not imagine sitting quiet in a tree stand. It's all about perspective. You (Jeff) don't consider it fair chase and if I am interpreting you correctly to be immoral. Others are going to take every advantage they can get (legally). I see both sides.
GA regs states under illegal activities, "Use of electronic communications equipment to aid in the pursuit of game."
in 37 years of hunting i have never seen a agent in the woods, pull up while your in you vehicle yes, hide in the weeds near a vehicle yes but walking around the woods looking for anything no. seen a couple stop at a deer camp and check tags or the local butcher shops for tagged meat, just like any job or any law enforcement there are good ... lets say A students and C student's, some know the intent of a law and some that use there own interpretation of the law and how it is written. i own some ground that a small river runs thru one agent believes that the state owns the water and i own the gravel underneath it another thinks the state owns both again ....interpretation i bought and pay the taxes but to get a trespassers a ticket you have to get the right agent. ?????
Not really. It would depend on how much you like the person you are hunting with... Like them? Text so they could meet the GW, instead of him trapsing through the woods your friend is hunting. Don't like him? Send him the txt when the GW is already talking to him. Just add something like "GW headed your way, Hide the marijauna needles, and cocaine bongs!!!" Did what now? I just figured out how to get my emails on my phone! It doesn't even send pic messages, cuz it has no camera. lol.
Quote: The use of electronic communication devices to alert hunters to live game is not only a violation of the Game & Wildlife Code, but violates the concept of Fair Chase. _____________________________________________ Where did you copy this from? I'd be interested to know. You seem to be implying that is applies to everyone, when in fact it does not. I don't think text messages are what this law is about in the first place. But I'm sure you know that. You're a smart guy . "violates the concept of Fair Chase."....I believe that is what you would call a "slippery slope"
In Wisconsin: Group Deer Hunting LawGroup Hunting: It is illegal to kill game for another person EXCEPT that during a deer firearm season only any member of a group deer hunting party may kill a deer for another member of the party. Group hunting is not legal for archery deer hunting. All participants must be licensed and each must possess a firearm. Members of a group deer hunting party should also agree in advance that a tag holder is willing to use their tag on a deer killed by another member of the party. The following conditions are established by law to ensure that hunters are actively participating in the hunt, are in the field and do not harvest more deer than the group has tags for: 1. A group deer hunting party must be at least 2 or more hunters who are hunting together within sight or voice contact of one another at all times. Temporary loss of voice or visual contact for a reasonable time due to terrain or weather conditions is acceptable. Hunters may not kill deer for persons who are not out in the field actively hunting with the party or are at other locations apart from the area where the hunter killed the deer. 2. Group deer hunting is not allowed to fill the special free Antlerless Deer Carcass Tag issued to first-time Hunter Education graduates. 3. Hunters may not use cellular phones, special free radio communications or other mechanical or electronic amplifying devices, (except hearing aids) to get someone to tag a deer. It is legal to use electronic devices for reasons other than getting someone to tag a deer. 4. The hunter for whom the deer is killed must possess a valid, unused carcass tag for the type of deer killed. 5. The hunter killing the deer may not leave the deer unattended until after the deer is tagged and the tag is validated according to the deer carcass tagging instructions (page 22). A hunter is attending a deer if the hunter can see the deer. 6. Convicted felons cannot participate in group deer hunting or allow use of their tag by anyone else. Deer drivers are not required to possess firearms or hunting licenses. 7. Adults may not gun deer hunt during the October 10 and 11 youth gun deer hunt.
This is why I said, "my interpretation". What threw me off is this statement. "If you can't at LEAST see the conflict between alerting hunters in your party that deer just passed you (and they're headed their way) and fair chase.....I don't know what to tell you." I read that statement as, you find it unethical. My bad.
For those of you that your state does not allow electronic devices to be used for the aid of chasing game. Are deer drives allowed in your state? That's the part I don't understand. How is deer driving fair chase?
I understand the law isn't about texting. If somebody gets slapped on the wrist for testing their son (or anyone) that there is a deer, turkey, hippo, etc) coming their way -that IS horse****. I understand that you enjoy the sport of baseball. As do I. Mucho. It would be like tipping pitches or stealing signs - tough to do - but it's part of the game. For someone to look at people who "warn others that deer is coming" as unethical is DUMB. IMO, of course. Blanket statement, I know.
