They've been having an all out assault on the deer herd for a few years. Giving doe tags away like candy and guys filling them. Then, when the deer herd tumbles in quite a few areas of the state, the hunters blame the DNR. Everyone knew all along that it was a bad idea to kill as many deer as they were trying to kill, yet, they kept on shooting.

The hunters of WI effed the herd, the DNR just wrote the permission slip.

    Dan:

Is the DNR there comtemplating a kill-off, due to (cited) CWD?

    If the answer is "yes":

    1. Do you think it's warranted?

    2. Who are they contemplating to perform this task?

Contemplating? Hell, they've been trying to eradicate the deer herd in the CWD zone for many years. Basically allowing hunters to kill nearly everything they see. But, it hasn't worked.....many in the CWD zone got wise and are being better stewards of the population than the DNR wants them to be.

No, its not warranted. CWD isn't the huge deal they make it, IMO.

Yes, many hunters did and do follow the DNR blindly. Having said that, I want to add that hunters were forced into killing a lot of the does if they wanted to continue hunting at all in earn-a-buck units. That IS forcing the hunter to kill does that they don't want to. Unless they just give up hunting.

Yes, EAB was a joke, but in a lot of areas it came after years of nearly unlimited doe tags. Also, in the EAB areas, do you think that everyone only shot one doe? No, lots of guys still shot multiple does.......just because they had tags for them.

We have to same issue in some areas of Michigan. Guys complain about there not being any deer, but they have already shot 3 does that season. Its the DNR's fault though. Or they complain about no big bucks, but shoot the first (or two) legal 1.5 yo bucks they see.

I agree the the regulations aren't the best, but the DNR aren't the ones killing the deer. We have poor deer management, and even worse hunter management.

Agreed. I just wanted the facts out there that in some cases hunters were forced to shoot does they did not want to. The DNR deserves criticism for that and you just can't say its 100% hunters fault. It was jammed down their throats for around 3-5 years in approximately 1/3 of the entire state.

I'm not a big fan of the EAB cop out. Why? Like I stated before....a lot of guys who were saying they were forced to shoot a doe, were also shooting multiple does.
