My neighbor has a yellow lab that is the most annoying dog I have ever seen. It WILL NOT stop barking. I know a lot of the problems are because my neighbors should not own a dog. They do not walk it or give it any attenion. When they get sick of listening to it they put it outside on a rope where the rest of the neighborhood has to listen to it. Last night we were outside doing yard work and I finally had to go in before I went over to shut it up myself. When the neighbor asked where I went my wife told her that I went in because I could not stand the barking...and the ***** just laughed. I am friends with the husband and have mentioned it to him and he wont do anything about it. Not to mention that it poops in our yard all the time. I can deal with this because we have to pick up after our dog anyways. I just need this dog to stop barking constantly. Anyone have any suggestions how I can do this without making everyone involved mad (my wife told me not to get in an argument over this)?

Put the fear of god into that beast (Get your neighbor drunk and then suggest a barking collar...that you already have purchased..itll shut him up quick)

This is one of those things where it's hard to give you an answer that even makes sense. For us we have a German shepherd that we have trained to be a barker and not socialized to keep her as a watch dog. Back in October of last year we had a screen get cut and someone tried breaking into the house and the only thing we can think of that kept them from continuing was our barking dog. That being said, we do let her bark some at the neighbors (partly because we think it was someone they know who tried breaking in) but after a short while we reassure her that we are OK and she then calms down and stops barking. She will watch after that and if anyone approaches (or if their dogs come over to crap on our lawn) she will bark again.

In your situation with the continual barking without them stopping it just seems that they don't give a crap. Is the dog barking at you and your family or just barking in general? Perhaps going over and socializing with it would help?

I would give it a snack, give it a little bit of attention and get to know the dog. You are right it is not the dog's fault it is the owner's fault. Maybe getting to know the dog will help. I will say this, it is a far better problem to have a barking dog than an enemy as a neighbor. Bad neighbors will involve more than a bark.

Buy the dog a stop barking collar and you and your neighbor will both have peace and quiet.

I know the dog...hell I have thrown a ball probably more times than they have for it. Even then you could throw a ball for this dog a thousand times and she would bring it back drop it for you and bark for an hour if you dont throw it 1001 times.

Offer to buy the dog from him and then do what you want with it. Is it illegal to keep a dog on a rope / chain there? It is here.
