Ok, so the few of you that have read my last whinny thread know I started a new job that is night shift and having a hard time with it. So, I have decided to give myself a little incentive...I am working on planning a vacation for around February. Hoping that motivates me to keep pushing and make the best out of this. So, I want to plan a good trip with the girlfriend...meaning no hunting and minimal fishing at best. Remember, Im looking for something around February, something in the winter since I take a bunch of small fishing trips through out the spring summer and fall, and hunt the fall. Winter tends to drag on, so want something for that time. Im not rich, but can spend some money on this. Would like to stay in the US, mostly to spend less on things like flights and more on food and activities. I figure there are enough members on here from all over the country, and many of you have done your share of traveling, so figure there should be good ideas to be had here. It will probably be 7-9 days, so any suggestions need to have enough to do to keep my attention that long lol. Also, very open to the idea of a cruse, but if I do that I want there to be a good amount of cool stops...not just floating around eating and burning my ginger skin for 10 days. Thanks in advance crew!!!
Also, doesnt have to just be in the US...if its affordable I am open to ideas out side of the US. Like I said, only said in the US because I wanted to help keep cost down but Im sure there are some pretty nice areas out side of the US that are affordable also.
St. Croix, St. Thomas, Puerto Rico... You're close to the Pocono's and it's very romantic there... Or... Costa Rica (there's some great fishing there... hehe).
Stay away from cruises and all-inclusives You can have a badass trip to Costa Rica or Panama for around $3k. Check vrbo.com for beach huts/houses.
I agree with the cruise but on an island you almost need a all inclusive so you don't get hammered on food or drinks. I loved Aruba, I even went back. There's plenty to do or not do if that's your thing. I stayed at the Tamarijn Aruba All Inclusive Vacation Beach Resort - Official Website
A quite log cabin in the north woods with opportunities for snowshoeing, dogsledding, cross-country skiing during the day and sitting by the wood fire at night. Shoot, you could even do a tiny bit of icefishing If only there was a place you could find to do all that fun & relaxing
haha that is a tempting offer...for when there is not 3 feet or snow and ice. I would love to make a summer trip up to your place some time for sure, I love the pictures whenever they make their way on here!
I will check that out asap for sure man. So if I wanted to new an N.O. trip, could I count on you for some info/tips? Because that is high on my list. The food alone has it super high, and I know theres much more to it then that.
Definitely disagree. We've done several all inclusives, and if you actually shop around, it doesn't make sense to not to (unless you like self guided vacations and want to explore yourself). As far as cost effectivness, the Dominican was the best bang for the buck, and had the nicest resorts. We're doing our first cruise in a few days, so I'll report back later on that, but the excursions we booked age me really excited. All but one of our trips have been during peak season (not she. You're planning to go), and we never go over $3200 with flights. With all of that being said, I want to explore the US more. Particularly the West and Pacific Northwest.
I have been to the Dominican twice with my wife. Never been in February but when I went in October we paid about $1800 ( flight and hotel, food and drink)for the two of us all inclusive for a week. Probably a little more expensive in Feb but I do not have any numbers to throw at you.
Yeah I might take you up on that. I would prob only want to spend a couple days in the city, then want to find some cool things outside of it. Ive watched enough Swamp People and Duck Dynasty to know I wanna spend sometime down there lol.
I like to plan my own vacations and explore myself, thus my hate for all inclusives. To me, it doesn't make much sense to go to a different country and sit in a gated resort the entire time. If I just want to sit on the beach for a few days, I'll go to Florida.
Makes sense. To each their own. I don't trust myself or others in many of the countries to explore on my own (the Dominican is one of them) I always make a point to book a few excursions every trip, and with the cruise we're doing. I'm going to get to see the interior of 4 different islands in one week. My wife likes these types of trips and since I'm the one with 10+ weeks off in the summer, and she has 10 days, we go where she wants.
I'll have to disagree again with you on this. I explored all of Aruba but when I came back the food and drink were still free. The taxes and drinks at most island resorts are insane, I talked to this guy that was staying in a hotel down the road from us and he was getting hit ballpark prices on food and drink.A budget can get tore up quickly like that. Again to each his own.
