I live in a mountain community in the Santa Cruz Mountains in California and we are in a horrible drought right now. My property is just above one of the only trickling creeks in the area so I have been getting a lot of activity on my property. A couple weeks ago while I was away on a fishing trip, my wife called to let me know that she and my brother inlaw came face to face with a mountian lion 10 feet away from our front door. It rained a little this weekend and I have found fresh lion prints in the same area. Unfortunately I would probably go to jail if I kill it being that I am surrounded by eco freaks, so I need to prove that it is returning to get Fish and Game to come up and set a trap to remove it. Looking for recommendations on a trail cam that can take stills as well as video with time/date stamp and no flash since it will be pointed right at the front of my house. Appreciate any advice out there... Thanks, Erik
Step 1: Move out of California. Just kidding. I suggest getting a trail camera to get pictures and then send them to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. It's their responsibility to minimize conflict between human and mountain lion as stated on their site, so hold them to it.
I recommend the Moultrie M-990i No Glow. Does video and still photos. There is no flash or lights at all. Good trigger speed. Reasonably priced. I own several for deer hunting.
