My buddy shot a hen turkey this evening with the bow. He said it was a little low but not terribly low. The arrow must of stayed in the bird because he could not find it anywhere. No blood trail just some feathers.

He said when he shot the turkey it seemed to struggle to get walking so he didn't think it was going to be very far. It did not fly.

I have 0 experience with shooting a turkey with the bow so I am no help to him. The only thing I know is that turkey's are one tough SOB's from when I have shot them with the gun.

Anyone have any idea if they think this bird is dead or not? Also any tracking tips as far as where she may have laid down to die? There is no blood trail so we are kind of screwed. She was in a group of 8 if that helps where she might be.

I realize this isn't much to go. Thanks.

No chance to get tracks with the heavy leaf cover. :(

I think we are up against grid searching. My guess is that turkey may still be alive. We are going to go first thing in the morning. Guess I wondering if you don't hit vitals low will they die anyway?

If you just cut or broke a leg it will be tough to find. However, if you penetrated the body cavity, you may be in luck.

Turkeys can and will crawl into tight places and hide. It's absolutely amazing how they can disappear. You could walk right by them and never see them. They are naturally camouflaged.

Tracking a wounded turkey is about as hard as it gets without a blood trail.

Chances are a wounded turkey who cant fly isnt going far before they tuck into some tight, tiny nook or cranny. I bet it is very close by. Your eyes are going to have to be sharp for this one. Good luck.
