I’ve taken a couple years off from hunting/archery due to taking care of my kids. I became a stay at home dad and haven’t had much time for anything surprisingly. Fast forward to now, both kids are going to school in two weeks and I will have much more free time on my hands. I miss archery/bow hunting. Still have all my hunting gear but need a new bow.

I’m looking to spend around $500-$700 on a new/used rig. What would you suggest? I had a Mathews before and loved it but also don’t want to spend a fortune on a new bow. I would also like to have this rig for going to Total Archery Challenge events, 3D shooting.

Would you suggest something such as a Bear Whitetail, any specific used Mathews, Hoyt, or Elite in that price range?

    Any suggestions are much appreciated!

I would look for a used bow on ebay, craigslist, AT, etc. Getting a flagship bow that's a few years old and in decent shape is better than buying a new low-end/budget bow IMO.

For $700 or best offer I'd look at something like this all day long.

Definitely new old stock or used flagship. As far as a specific bow just get one with the specs you like and look up reviews on them. A pile of good bows have been made over the past 5yrs from all major companies.

Check out Appalachian Archery, on FB or archery talk, they sell leftover Elites pretty reasonable.
I just looked, 2024 Elite Envisions for $725

I spend stupid money on hunting and gear. Buying a current model year bow at retail is just beyond stupid, even for me.
The manufacturer model that devalues dealer stock yearly has hurt retailers more than anything. It’s a ass backward model that’s been bleeding independent shop for years.

If you are interested in Hoyt, I have a Helix that I might offload in your price range and I'll even pay shipping. 70 pound, adjustable draw length without a press or mods. Sweet bow and it's my backup. Love that thing, but time to let it go.
