Well as my username states, Im in the army. Currently Im stationed in South Korea and I am getting ready to order a Captain from Bowtech through their overseas military discount program. The only problem is, really dont have any pro shops over to choose from. Bummer I know. So in saying that, this is where the help is needed. I will be replacing some of the accessories that come with the bow. A new sight and peep are in store. I do know that I will be placing a G5 meta peep on the bow. Im going th leave the octane rest on for now, seeing how Ive used that rest on my old bow. Im usually a guy who goes to the store a million times looking over products and debating which ones I like. Right now all I can do is monitor shop. The items i need help on deciding are: Sight - has to have 3rd axis tuning. Release. String - Its a possibility I will replace the string. Im not 100% yet. maybe some input on whether or not to keep the original on for now. Stabilizer - again its possible if I dont like the one that comes with the bow I will decide to buy a new one. And finally seeing how most of my arrow building equipment is in storage I am going to need a saw along with the other essentials. Including recommendations on brand of shafts to go with. Keep in mind that I make military pay here but Im not going to go cheap on these items either. I also need a target but i think i have settled on the rhinehart 18-1. And if anyone has any items that I have listed that they are selling, I am open to buying quality used accessories. Especially in the arrow building and tuning department. Hopefully I can have everything together in order to have enough time to get a good 2 months practice before I take leave and try to catch the rut in Ohio. Thank you to all those you input on my little project.
thank you for putting your neck out for me everyday stay safe and come on home to the land of whitetails if you ever make it down to va/nc i'll buy you a beer! sorry couldnt help on your bow question just wanted to thank ya and wish you the best!
First off thank you for your service! Now to try and answer some of your questions. Sight - I have the NXS Precision Bowsight by Octane. Its ok but I have been looking hard at the Axcel ArmorTech and have about decided that this will be my next sight. I like that the ArmorTech is adjustable without tools and that the pin fibers are totally contained. Release - I use a TRU Ball ST360. My personal preference is to use a thumb release. I have owned a couple of different brands of releases and TRU Ball has been my favorite. String - Sorry I am not a lot of help here. I'm in the process of looking over a back up string set for my Alphamax and it will most likely be another set of Fuse strings. Stabilizer - I have used the Octane 11.5 for a couple of years now and have no complaints with it. It serves its purpose well. Arrow Saw - I have an Apple Archery Pro Saw again no complaints. I am fairly new to cutting my own arrows though so take that opinion for what it is. Arrow Shafts - I shoot the Carbon Express Maxima 250. Honestly I have serious looked at switching to the Carbon Express Maxima Hunter to gain a little more weight on my arrow. I could gain about 0.7 gr/in or close to 20 total grains an arrow with a switch. Target - Rhinehart 18-1 ALL THE WAY!!! Best target I have ever owned, by far. Good luck and hope I was some help!
Yes, thankyou for your service. I use the carbon express maxima hunter arrows GA Bowhunter and I love them, you will too.
after experimenting for a while I went with the following, sight- Spot-Hogg Hogg-It with wrap. it's bullet proof and great adjustability release- Scott little Bitty Goose w/buckle. Best out of many I've tried string- BuckNasty is what I normally put on my bow. right now the factory Maetreo string is still on my Primal. It will be replaced after season with another BuckNasty stabilizer- doinker (thanks Jeff!) Arrows are currently Easton ACC-3/40-360 Best arrow I have ever shot but normally kinda spendy. Saw harbour frieght mini cut off saw fletching jig Bitzenberger target Rinehart 18-1 and Rinehart field target Good luck with whatever you choose and SALUTE! thanks for your service.
Thank you for the replies. I will spend a little bit of my down time tonight looking over what you guys have recommended to me.
Thank you for your service. I also served in Korea, Camp Hovey, many moons ago. Good luck over there & with your web shopping. You'll get alot of useful info from this site. Also good luck with the RUT in " The GREAT STATE" ! Where you from in Ohio? I'm from Lima area.
Ive been up to camp hovey a few times. Its real small but Im sure you probably would recognize it now. Im from the Sidney area which you being from lima should know where that is.
Hey fellow MP! Sight: I and a TON of others love the Spot Hogg Hunter Hogg-it with Hogg Wrap... built like a tank with infinite adjustability, extremely bright fiber optics that are well-protected. Includes a vertical aiming wire that allows you to sort of frame your pin like the reticle in a scope as a nice touch. 2nd and 3rd axis leveling. If you order the 2 3/8" pin guard size, it'll marry up with a 1/4" hunting peep very nicely. There's also high acclaim for Axcel's Armortech, though I personally don't have any experience with it. String: Don't waste your money replacing a stock BowTech string. I'd put BT's stock offerings up against ANY stringmaker on the market, and that includes Winner's Choice, Vapor Trail, or any other custom stringmaker out there. You simply can't do any more with a string than BowTech does already. Stabilizers are a far more personal choice. I've had eight or nine Octane 7" stabs on my setups over the last couple years, and for the money they're real hard to beat. I've used Stealth stabs a bunch, and like them as well. (www.stealtharchery.com) B-stingers get high praise, as well as Posten stabs. That's a good starting point... like I said, a bunch of good choices out there. Hope that helps! Be safe, and get back stateside!
