We are leaving in the morning for Destin Florida on our annual family vacation. Anyway, we are going to go off shore fishing this year (went bay fishing last year). We all have done this many times before, but I'm the only one who ever gets sick. So this year I'm going to try Dramamine. So has anyone ever used it before? Should I go with the pills or the patch? I've heard to take it/put it on the night before that way its in your system. Any help would be appreciated. :d
when we went deep sea fishing of the coast of texas(near rockport). before anyone stepped on the boat they handed every one two packs of the dramamine. it didnt work very well though....i think we should have taken it soones..so ya if you took it the night before you should be fine.
I went deep sea fishing last year down in Cancun in 10 ft. swells. It was my first time on a boat in the ocean too. I took the pills couple hours before we left the dock and I was fine. One guy was wearing the patch and was throwing up over the side most of the trip.
I've been out in some rough seas a few times, never had a problem turning green before, thank god! I would take the stuff way ahead of time if I were you!
Definitely use the pills, and take em starting the night before to be safe. I took em the first few trips out to be cautious. Then I got brave and thought I could handle it on my own...turns out I was right and don't need the stuff, but my friend turns a slightly humorous shade of green/purple if he doesn't take the stuff. It works good.
Just like the fact that some people get sick and some don't some medications work for some people and some don't. The thing is you shouldn't mix med.'s since some effect different systems to get the desired results. The best thing I ever saw was something called a "Coast Guard Cocktail". It's a mix of promethazine and ephedrine. It was by prescription back in te day but with the restrictions on meth now it's impossible to get. Local pharmacists hook people up with OTC cold medications to get the same effect (psuedaphed and an antihystamine). Call our pharmacy: 907-481-1560 and have your pharmacist ask about it if you're interested. I hear good things about the new dramamine but you definitely want it in your system at least a few hours ahead of time. Thank God I never had to deal with a day of seasickness in over 11 years on the Bering Sea. It was Hell just watching all my shipmates deal with it. Best of Luck! WTF?! you can't use the word "c0cktail?" That's funny!
It helps when you don't get smashed the night before. On the bright side you did chum the water and hook into that big whatever it was. Remember that one Big Jim lol.
