Well today was my son's 7 year old birthday. Everyone got him toys and such. I purchased him a little electric guitar to expand his mind a bit. I see him singing and playing the air guitar when he sits in my truck so I figured what the heck, lets see how he likes the electric guitar. Problem is I don't know crud about musical instruments. Are there any basic guitar videos out there I could purchase and he could watch to learn? If it takes me to sit there with him to help him, I will do it. I believe in well rounded kids so I think this will be a pretty cool thing for him to experience. Thanks guys.

Oh yeah, this is what I got him for under a hundred bucks...

I bought my son his first guitar/amp for his 9th birthday and i let him experiment with it for a short time and then found a place that gave lessons and he hated them,so then i found a guy that teaches young students how to play a few simple songs and then he was hooked and now he is 19 in college and he plays for two bands lead guitar, song writer. The band is finishing up there first studio ep tracks this weekend. He plays everyday, and picks up a ton of rifs and licks from youtube, Lots of how to there. have him pick his fav band out and scroll down the list because there is always a "how to play" deal for each song by some fan anymore. Not all bad.

also a friend of mine owns a music venue so we always go see people play that i think will broaden his mind and playing style. not that he will play the kind of music you will like so you better be prepared for that one....Also the first few years can be hard on those around him,earplugs..........:D

Get a guitar and learn how to play it with him. You'll make his day.

Started my kids out with lessons. Neither one of them stayed with it but I think you need an instructor that is good with children. I picked up their guitars and have hardly missed a day of playing for two years now. Best thing I ever did was pick up the guitar. Great stress relief and now my youngest is showing interest in playing again. Guess he figures if his old man can learn to play it must not be that hard. lol.

I would second the comment that you should learn with him. Tons of material on the internet but the best bet is find an instructor that works well with child beginners. Learning some simple songs right away is the ticket for kids to get interested. Our instructor was classically trained and was way too technical with the kids. Enjoy!

Thanks again for the suggestions gentlemen. I will heed your advice and go down to the pawn shop or something and pick up a guitar. I need something to help me unwind at night so this just might be the ticket. I have to order a special 9V adapter for my son's amp so my son's guitar is just sitting unused. Who sells a guitar and an amp without the proper power adapter. :) Not cool.
