Berkley is usually always good. I would go with 8 or 10lb Monofilament for all around fishing. The higher weight, the less you can put on the reel. Power Pro is a good braided line, but it's also expensive. Braided line will be much stronger, and will stay at a smaller diameter, So 20 lb Power Pro, is the same size as say 4 lb Mono.
10-12. Berkeley Smooth Casting XL. For the price, you cannot beat it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk www.skyangler.com
I have a few different poles but on my pole right now, that's the size your looking to get, I have 8lb SpiderWire. Its a thinner diameter line and I really like it.
More than likely the Berkeley is gonna be cheaper than the SpiderWire and Berkeley is great line. I've used plenty of it.
Thanks for the help guys. Im hoping to get out a couple times this week. I went out last weekend and caught some bass. Im hoping to get one bigger than this one next go around.
Get yourself a pflueger president reel or a shimano sedona in a 2500 size. They are quality spinning teels in the $50 dollar range, and can probably be had cheaper online. A quality reel will be worth it in the long run IMO. I would get a 6'6" med or mh rod, especially if you are targeting lmb and fish of that size.
Kevlar line, two poles, and two open faced reels. Ultra light pole for pan fish and med to M/H for cats, bass, and pike. I own several brands of poles and reels and have not had problems with them. Kevlar will not break and you'll never lose a fish because of it. Welcome to the addiction!
For anything you are looking to do the bearing count will not matter. They do seem to make some reels feel smoother but if you are not looking to fish for $$$ I would just stick with whatever best fits your budget! These guys are on the right track with the Ugly Stick collection, used them for years with no problems! If you are looking to get into bass fishing bassresource.com is an awesome place to start....TONS of info on there!!
I just picked up a Pflueger president rod and reel 6'6 medium action. I held a few others but this one just felt comfortable even though it was a little more expensive id rather have something thats comfortable for me even though it cost me a few extra bucks.
Sweet thats good to know. :D Yes sir. Now I just have to get it set up with the line and everything else.
If its mono, take your old off. Then take the new line and guide down through all of the loops and under the metal thing(sorry cant think of name, but its the thing you flip up on an open faced to cast)so its on the guides. Then tied the line in a slipknot around the line holder spot on the reel (again sorry don't know the name) then put some resistance against it, and start reeling in your reel, the resistance helps it spool up nicely. Sometimes you have to manually start it by looping it around a couple times at first to get it started, and if it the line is braided then you might need some compression tape on the line holder to get it started or manually start it too. If its a bait caster the reel part is just a tiny bit more complicated but not much more. Look on YouTube there's a ton of good videos there, where they show it and explain it better. Sorry if my explanation was confusing lol.
Nope it made sense Thanks. It helped out I will also watch some videos tonight so ill have a better idea when i go at tomorrow.
The best value priced reels you can get are Abu Garcia. Match a medium sized reel with a medium action 7' rod and spool up with 8 or 10 lb trilene XML and you'll be able to land anything that swims in freshwater. If you're in or near Wisconsin shoot me a message ill take you fishing with me.
I picked up a Pflueger President rod and reel with some 8 lb line. Thanks, Im not far from Wisconsin so maybe sometime ill take you up on that offer.
