I just recetly found out that i could update my old non-typical DC-100 film camera for a Cuddeback Capture at a reduced price. So, naturally, i took the deal (Sorry JZ, i had to go through the manufacturer). Well, after reading the reviews on chasingame, i got a little worried that i jumped to a hasty conclusion. They didnt have anything good to say about them at all. Then i went to my more trusted source, trailcameras.com. And Justin said alot of good things about the camera, so that made me feel alot better. It seems to take very clear and good pictures, which is important to me. Both websites mentioned a fast trigger time, and that something ive never known before (coming from old stealth and moultrie cameras). What i wanna know is what you guys think about the cam. If im not mistaken, i think Steve has this cam, so im calling you out a little for an opinion :d
If your talking about this "Steve" I do not have one. I have the no flash cudde and RC60. From what I gather Caleb (I've got some great sources) everything about this camera Is great besides the IR pics. I agree with that too being they do look pretty grainy. All of the other non night pics have great quality like cudde's always do. The regular Capture with the flash, I haven't heard a negative thing yet that's been consistent. There's also no video mode either.
Sorry Steve, i thought yours was a Capture . Video mode doesnt matter much to me, i have it on my other 2 cams but i have never used it. I am getting the flash version of the cudde, as like you mentioned, im not to thrilled about the IR pics.
I have an older Cuddeback. If it were me and you had to choose on the Capture models go with a flash version and save a little extra money aside for a bear safe for security. The strap that comes with the Capture sucks for security.
I have 3 Flash Captures, and 1 IR capture. I've been very happy with the Flash units as they were very reliable and took great photos this past fall. The IR, not so much. The flash range is terrible, and the quality of the image even when the subject is close is terrible. In the daylight, it works great though. However, I did just recently upgrade the firmware on the IR unit and per Cudde's site is supposed to fix some of those issues. Only time will tell. I ran a few "tests" indoors and it seemed better, but not great. All in all, I would get another standard Capture unit in a heartbeat. If I was looking for an IR camera in the same price range I'd probably stick with a Moultrie. They have a few issues of their own, but when they do take pictures they are of unquestionably better quality.
I have a Capture. The only thing I don't like about it is I cannot veiw the images in the field on my Nikon Camera like I can with other units. It uses a different format. Other that that it takes great pics.
Thanks for the replies guys, i knew if i called you out you'd show up Justin, like ive said, i read your reviews and i am pleased about what you have said about the flash Capture. That is the model that i am going to get. Im not a fan of IR because picture quality means alot to me. jmbuckhunter, GREAT photos! That is what i wanted to see
Here's a few more from the standard Capture as good examples of what you can expect. Good flash range at night You do get some motion blur in daytime images from time to time, but it's usually not too bad and the pictures are viewable, unlike my older Excite where all you could see was a brown streak.
Thanks for posting up more pics JZ. The photo quality is great and thats what im looking for in a camera.
I have a capture flash, I have 1 full season with it and I couldn't be happier. I have good pictures of deer and not the half the deer. The one thing I have to check which I dont remeber seeing is the camera pics should go in to continuous sequence instead of having a img0001 everytime you load your pics. Maybe it has that, I am not sure but I intend to find out. Great camera I think you will be very happy!
Well here she is boys, got her in the mail yesterday and set her up today in this clearing looking for some strutters :d
