Once again I have reconsidered tactics with the bullhead situation. The frog gig was a failure, the stink bait on a treble was problematic. Today the new weapon arrived, I went with a 7 tine double barbed northern spear, the f'ing around is pretty much over.
The bull heads now fear babayaga. Big ones that normally showed every night did not last night. No worries I am playing the long game, I wait for a mistake.
I live too far north to have an appetite for catfish or bull head. I am not eating anything with a mud vane, hell I bet brook trout taste better than a bull head.
Only saw 1 small bull head last night. Don't tell anybody but there are dozens of hand size bluegills under my dock.
Na they don't need to stay up, you can catch nice ones during the day if you can get the jig down before the little ones hit it.
I patched some spots in the lawn and I came home and noticed squirrels frolicking in the dirt. It went full scale all chipmunk and squirrel traps deployed and shoot anything not with its face in a trap. I got a late start with fire arms started with the gamo, not shooting well so I busted out the 410 had 3 shells left. I got a chipmunk right off the bat, saw a gray down by the seeded spots used the last 3" 410 round. Left me with 1 shell and wanted a red to pull off the rodent slam. I ran out of daylight no slam for me. I will be in the yard all day tomorrow and the day after too, early in the morning till the sun goes down.
Well the battle has been rather passive in the past I would take one out given the opportunity. Yesterday I hunted between tasks I would walk the woodline while the traps were deployed. It was a deadly day for rodents.
Day 2 of nothing in the traps, dogs do not alert when they walk by the wood shed or the retaining wall or along the wood line.
Was at the hardware store and needed ammo, went with 4 shot want longer range for switch in tactics, no shot I won't take now.
Grandsons wanted to see Pops spear a bull head, it was a tough hunt with 2 little monsters loudly pointing out the bull heads. They saw a mean one that was stealing food from the other fish, I didn't let them down. Fun to see their parents look of apprehension when they come to pick the boys up and they say guess what we did with grandpa today.
Neighbors are gone today and I bought a fresh box of 410 shells. I have every weapon in the arsenal fulled stocked with ammo. May expand the exclusion zone for rodents and wipe out any settlements.
