OK guys/gals I need some help. I’ve got this mature buck coming through almost every night but normally middle of the night. Last night was the earliest that he has ever come through around 9pm. He then comes back around 430 in the morning the opposite direction. Do you guys think I should hold off on slipping in there until the rut when I may be able to put some scent out or something along those lines? I do not think he is bedding too far away but I cannot move in on him since the adjoining properties are posted. I'm only hunting a small 10 acre piece, but it is a natural funnel that follows a steep ridge, swamp, and private yard.
Can't advise on using scent. But if you have the time, you might wait until closer to the rut when he may get sloppy and come out during the day. I was after a buck up there a few years ago that was nocturnal except for just one morning first week of November where he showed up at 7 am, only time I saw him in daylight, but then he took the trail away from me instead of the one that went past me...such is life.... Great looking buck, good luck with him.
