I know there are quite a few bright individuals on here and plenty that are in business for themsleves. I teach and we are out of school here soon. I also coach baseball and we will play 2 evenings a week and practice 1 or 2 days likely in the morning so it works out my normal summer job isnt as full time as it use to be. I have always worked in the summer to stay busy. I have been working at a local golf course off and on for 10 years. We recently got a new boss there and he seems like a real nice guy and has told me i could work on the weekends (7-8 hr per weekend). So not the full time summer job i am used to... He decided to hire high school and college kids that cant run any of the equipment. Long story short, they are trying to pay the workers less than they ever have and do all the same work with a total of 2 less workers. I dont work in the summer to get rich but to have spending money to shoot, buy a gun each summer, and for hunting dues. i NEED to stay busy and the things around the house will only last so long. I was thinking about maybe trying to clean driveways around the neighborhoods, pressure washer and surface cleaner. I know about how much i will need for equipment so not worried about that aspect. But about starting to do it. Ideally i like something to do on the side a day or two here or there. Something that can be done in the A.M. I dont want to full on pressure wash houses, decks, roofs, or anything like that. Just simple driveways and sidewalks. Can i do this on the side without worrying about insurance and LLC and what not? I have to much to risk if somebody were to try and get rich for something stupid and want a new driveway. Driveways and sidewalks dont have much risk in them and are simple to do. Any thought or opinions would be much appreciated
deliver pizzas. They get paid well and generally you eat for free. I worked for dominos for a few years and it was a blast.
Go into lawn care along with that. Theres always people around here looking for somebody to mow grass. If ya offered both might get ya a little more work. Of course you'd be puting wear and tear on your mower so might not be a option. If nothing else as far as damage goes with driveways and sidewalks just make sure to be up front about it and if there is damage already there whip your phone out and take couple pics. We do that all the time goin into a job since we pour concrete sometimes equipment or even the concrete trucks haveta get on existing drives or sidewalks. Really though I can't see a powerwasher messing up a drive too bad unless its been freshly done, even up to a couple months. We go so far as to tell people not to salt their drives or walks the following winter if its getting close cause it'll mess up the finish. You'd be surprised how many calls we get in the spring because of complaints that the concrete is messed up. Its pretty easy to tell there's been salt on it besides what drips off from the roads. As far as the buisness side of it I wouldn't know. I'm just a indian not a chief ha ha.
Doing any type of business] without insurance is a bad idea....if something does go wrong you could be screwed in more ways than one depending on the situation
Truth be told he is more of a liability to the homeowner than himself. However if he hires extra workers then the homeowner has even more reason to be worried and donut does too. In the end the homeowner can get screwed badly. I'm often hesitant to hire people who are not insured to work around my house.
Yeah i guess it would be stupid to pursue without it... Was just thinking it might be possible, but i guess if it was on my mind enough to think about not getting it then it shud be on my mind to get it
Your rates are going to go up substantially if you do, and a lot of people who are looking for deals won't be looking for you as you are not offering low prices anymore nor are you really a legitimate business to others trying to pay more. I'd say get in with trusty friend to do work. If you can do everything yourself and you're not going to sue the homeowner, I wouldn't get insurance.
I'd say you have the right idea. Keep it simple with just doing driveways and side walks. Have a price in mind when you knock on the door and make it reasonable. Try to then get a few neighbors so you only unload your stuff once and don't worry about the insurance. Your a neighbor pressure cleaning for a neighbor. My buddy would look for jobs during the week then rent the machine on do the jobs on the weekends
Look into a local landscaping crew. Right now they are swamped. Really you can try to get in on watering for them. It's easy work and the hours keep you out of the heat of the day. If not, I would say painting. Post up a few flyers. Someone is always wanting a fence painted or sealed.
That would be a fun and rewarding adventure, but that would mean i would have to be a good shot first right?
