And they say money can't buy happiness, pfttt. I call BS and would add it can also buy satisfaction.

So what truck you going to get? Still seems like your on the fence, I would go F250. Better to have too much truck then not enough.

I agree with you and yes, you're exactly right...I'm still on the fence. I do think I'm probably not going to go with an F-150, I'm just afraid it'll be too hard on it so I'm likely to go with an F-250 or 350. I'm very meticulous when I buy expensive stuff, I always like to know every available option and try to plan a purchase for every circumstance (or as many as I can foresee) before I pull the trigger. The result is I generally make good purchases and get good deals but the negative side is that it's time consuming and tedious. At some point I usually get frustrated and say hell with it and end up buying the first thing I looked at, ROFL.

Nah I'm kidding, I usually end up super happy with stuff I finally purchase and I don't usually have any regrets. It pays to do the due diligence and plan ahead and make the best decision possible. I hate having buyers remorse. In the mean time I got my truck fixed and back yesterday and it seems to be doing very well. I have a cash offer on it for $18K though so I'm fairly certain I'm going to buy something new here within a couple weeks.

I drove the fairly plain jane XLT F-250 yesterday, priced at $40K. It was equipped pretty decent for an XLT, all power with Sync and voice, no backup camera or screen but full power group 4x4 with the 6.2 gas. Pretty much equipped (plus a bit better) like my current truck with a bigger engine. Dealer in KC has an F-350 with the 6.7 Diesel in a lariat package, not loaded, missing a sunroof and the FX4 package but priced at $53K. Then a dealer in Arkansas has an F-250 lariat fully loaded for $45K, also has plain F-250 XLT trucks like the plain one I drove yesterday for about $46K which is a good price for a diesel.

It kind of sucks when you have good enough credit to buy almost anything but still worry about the amount of payments, just makes decisions all that much harder because then one's always tempted to buy something just a little nicer for just a little more money then when the payments start rolling around you wonder what the hell you were thinking, lol.

I'm in the same boat as you, I have been shopping for over a year now for a new to me work truck. Just cant find a great, have to buy deal yet. Plus I love not having that payment. For now I just keep fixing mine, and probably will keep running it til it blows up! Haha. Also I have to find a 4 door long bed, which limits the search a lot. I need the 4 door for the expanding family and will never work out of a truck with anything less than a 8 foot bed. Its nice to have when needed. I have been thinking of going up to the f350. I started buying some heavy equipment, and it would be nice to have a truck alittle stronger to yank it around. Good luck in your search Covey, hopefully the right truck will find you!

    Thanks!
From what I have seen looking at trucks, it's pretty easy to find trucks equipped with the long bed when they're F-350's, I saw a lot of them on cargurus.com.
Right now, I'm really leaning hard towards the truck in Arkansas that's an F-250 lariat FX4 that's loaded for $45K. I mean it's roughly 5K more than the plain XLT I drove yesterday but it's soooo nice and an extra $5K as long as it's still well under the $50K I wanted to stay away from is probably in the zone I can tolerate. I could certainly live without the extra creature comforts but the resale should equal out the extra cost anyway. It's pretty much my dream truck for a gasser.

I don't think it has running boards but that's fine, I can add nice ones easily and cheap or go all out and get power folding add ons like the lariat F150 option. It's probably going to get a three inch lift anyway, lol.

If you can swing it the extra features are nice. Once you have them you'll never say you wished you saved the $$$. I finally got the one I wanted with my current truck, got a loaded 15' Platinum with 4 doors and the 6.5' bed and it was worth every penny.

My brother in law just bought a new F-350 diesel platinum...it's so nice it's just rediculous. I think this lariat F-250 is about as good a balance between having some extra features and price efficiency as I can find and afford. I'm not really sure what extras can be had in a platinum vs this F-250 lariat. I can't really think of any extras this F-250 lariat doesn't have that a platinum could have. I haven't seen his in person yet but apparently he went and bought the most expensive thing he could find, lol. That's awesome as long as a person can afford it and he certainly can. I'm glad people can afford stuff like that, I feel lucky to be able to afford one like this F-250. (and I use the term "afford" very loosly, lol).

I'm still really kind of hung up on that first lithium grey F-150 I posted earlier in this thread, thing was soo sweet. Funny thing is that F-150 was just a couple grand cheaper than this new Lariat F-250 and that F-150 is an XLT....some of this stuff just makes no sense when you look at it. I guess maybe the better fuel mileage on the 150? but it just had cloth and only heated front seats. I dunno. That damn thing made me feel like I was driving the Batmobile or something haha, it was awesome. I wish it was enough truck for what I need but I'm just afraid I'd work it to death.

Mine is actually a F-150. I actually looked hard at the F-250 Platinums, they were only about 3-5k more depending on what was included in them.........I just didn't need that big of a truck though.

I'm not sure about the F-250's, but for the half tons......the Platinum comes with different leather seats with badging, power deploying running boards, the glass moon roof that extends the whole length of the cab, and the massaging seats. I'm sure there are a few other things too that I'm forgetting but those were the big ones that come with the upgrade.

Once you have all of the toys, it's hard to not get them the next time. Back in 08 when the economy stunk and fuel prices went nuts, the local dealer had a GMC Denali diesel that he couldn't move and he made me a deal. I've "needed" the Denali package ever since. Sort of like 1/2 ton vs 3/4 ton. I went back to a 1/2 ton once................

Bells and whistles are nice until they break :) Of course if you trade regularly, there's little to worry about.

I like ringing the bells and blowing the whistles. (and my accountant tells me to trade quite regularly too!)

I have a limited tundra with a lot of the bells and whistles, I can't imagine buying a vehicle without them. I had a 2006 F250 lariat I got rid of about 6 years ago. Was a gasser as well and a solid truck. 45K for a new crew cab seems like a really good deal.

For a lariat 4x4 with the FX4 package and a decently equipped lariat package with sunroof, leather, heated and cooled seats, sync, backup camera and full power everything...yes, $45K is a steal. I'm still wary of why they have their vehicles listed lower than anyone else but it seems to be not just that vehicle but their entire inventory. I'm like 95% sure I'm going to try to deal on that truck this coming week but I have to get my current one sold first for the cash offer I have on it. I have a ton of options and pretty sure I can live with any of them I choose but I have them all prioritized and I think that loaded F-250 is the best of what I have found.
It better go smoothly though, it wouldn't take a hell of a lot to push me back to that first Lithium grey F-150 with a 5.0 and just hope it's enough truck for what I need. I'm not going diesel, I think they're too problematic and too expensive to maintain to be worth the better power and mileage. I did take a hard look at the Dodge power wagons last evening though, I like the Ram Box option and the factory installed winch and the V8 Hemi...that truck looks badass. The problem is they have them so loaded down with off road capabilities that the tow rating suffers but damn, they look cool.

You have a Tundra. Your bells and whistles are less likely to break :) (sorry, I had to).

Toyota's bells and whistles are still stripped down compared to most brands. Power passenger seats are a limited and up option only for example.

I would go with the 5.0. The 3.5 just has more components to worry about going wrong.

Well, I bought the silver F250 Lariat in Arkansas this morning. Salesman drove three hours to come pick me up, he left there at 4am, was here by 7, drove us back three hours, bought the truck then I drove three hours back. I really really really like it! I stopped and ordered some weathertech floor mats for it on the way home. Will be customizing it in the coming days and weeks.

If you got that for 45k, you did really well. I would have taken a deal like that over my tundra, and I love my tundra.
