Depends on the avg temp you will be hunting with them in really. I use 800g to 1000 with regular socks in temps in the teens. anything colder I use wool socks.

So 1000 is plenty? It doesn't get to cold here. 10 to 15 degrees is probably normal lows.

I like to stay at 800 due to my long walks to stand though too. I would do 1000 or 1200 if you dont have to walk far.

The Merino wool socks are the key and don't wear your boots tight

Yes invest in a nice pair of socks. Its a game changer if you have never worn them.

I've got good wool socks from Filson. They make good stuff. I think my boots are crap. Had them along time and I didn't spend to much on them. It's time for new ones that are warm. Or battery powered socks!
If anyone wants to give me one of those heater body suites for Christmas let me know... Ill send you my address!

Well for one thing they're sold out.
For another thing, I have pairs of itasca 1000 and 2400 gram boots. Surprisingly there is not much difference in warmth between the two. One thing I learned the hard way is that rubber boots will freeze your feet, no matter how much thinsulate is around them- cold will always soak in from below. what matters is the soles, and for that you need pac boots. Me and my cousin hunted all day today in the snow and a high of 18. Me in my merino wool socks and rubber 2400s; and him in his cabelas Saskatchewan PAC boots and regular cotton athletic socks. Guess who's feet froze? This guy^^^^^

Agree 100% with the socks but I'm an "Irish setter" guy.

Ah, I was going off the link in your post. Don't get me wrong I really like my itasca 1000 grams, but they're only good down to about 25-30 before the cold tree stand platform will start seeping in after a couple hours. The 2400 grams only last about an hour longer down to 20 or so, and they tend to make my feet sweat on the walk in, no matter what socks I wear.

I learned to buy my hunting boots a size larger than my foot size. The warm air pockets is what keeps my feet warm in the really cold temps. Good boots and socks too, but snug boots will always be cold no matter how much insulation IMHO. SRM

I have the Cabela's Inferno 2000 gram Pac boots for work (as a forester) and love them! We had 5 inches of snow on the ground and 19* windchill, but my feet were toasty warm in cheap wool socks.
