Last year I bought my first Bushnell on a trade in deal, a Essentials E2. It ended up being a great camera for me. Pictures were always super crisp especially at night, some of the best I’ve seen from an IR cam: So this year when the same trade in deal with the new Bushnell Essentials E3 became available, I jumped on it and got 4 more and my buddy also picked up 4. Here’s our issue, some of the new cameras take great pictures just like the E2, such as this: Yet, others take horrible night pictures that are completely washed out because the flash is too powerful. All the cameras have the same settings, and unlike the E2 the E3 doesn’t have the ability to co trail flash power I don’t believe (can’t find the option). The bad pictures look like this: Anybody else having this issue or know what to do about it? I’ve asked a few times on social media and seem to be the only one having the issue. I don't have any experience with that particular camera so I can't say whether there's any sort of adjustment. But one remedy you might try is using a colored saran wrap over the flash. I know that sounds crazy but I've heard of other guys who did it and it worked. I'm not sure what all colors that stuff comes in and you may have to experiment a little but it's worth a shot. I have only used video mode. I do know that if the deer is about a foot from the camera, it does that. Otherwise it's good. Sent from my SM-S902L using Tapatalk
I’m getting deer washed out at night that are 15 feet from the camera, it’s getting quite annoying. And only some of them are doing it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Go to the auto parts store or Walmart and get window tint. Put the window tint over the flash area. It will cut the flash back for you. I tried this to reduce the visibility of a flash before and noticed it cuts the flash back. Start with 20 or 30% and see if that helps. Should also be able to get it on amazon. Good luck.
If some of the E3s you have take good night photos and some don't, you might want to compare the angle and height at which the cameras are mounted. It seems like the washed out photos are pointing towards the ground more. Maybe adjust the camera height a little closer to the ground and make sure the lens nearly horizontal if not just pointing slightly upwards. Just a guess though
I’ve tried all that, and moved cameras around to same locations to see if it helped and it did not. Some just have a stronger flash than the others, they arnt consistent. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
My stealth cams are pure garbage, we’ve discussed that in length here. One stopped working after 2 months, and the other takes crap night pictures. Pretty disappointed after all the advertising done here honestly. I had stopped using them in 2010ish because of issues and bought 2 to give them a chance this year and I won’t be buying anymore. I do like the 4k video capabilities just not the price. I’ve also talked at length with Stealth via email to correct the issue and they gave me lengthy reset instructions, battery recommendations and I’m only supposed to use certain cards that are formatted for Stealth cam, ect. Too much of a hassle for the amount of trail cameras I run. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yeah I know we have, I was just being funny. I wonder if you could paint over some of the flash bulbs on your cameras with black paint to dim them a bit. You could always try conctating their support. I had a Bushnell a number of years ago and something was wrong with it, I don't remember what now, but I'm pretty sure their support was helpful. You might want to give them a try. Sent from my SM-G920V using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
If you stopped using stealth in 2010 you has miss some good ones. The first version of the g42 was great. I have the ds4k now testing out and it looks to be a winner. Not the 4k part it is only 15 fps so that video sucks. But the 1080p setting looks great and the pictures are great. Still testing it out so time will tell. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Are your buddy’s cams doing the same thing? You could return them & get some others as you said only some are doing it. Could be a flaw & worth a try
Maybe check the setup menu to make sure all the cameras have the same version # listed. I don't see any firmware updates for the e3's, but if the versions were different it might give you something to ask bushnell about. I have 2 of the e2's and they have been great.
That’s the bummer...my e2s are awesome. They also have the ability to change the flash power. The e3s do not. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I did not. The flash works okay on video mode but still too powerful on picture mode. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Hmmm I might try one out next summer. Been thinking about getting one from LLBean since they have a lifetime guarantee on everything they sell. Thanks for the followup. Merry Christmas!
