    Try scouting !!

Once you've "locked-on" to a buck and deemed him a priority target, you need to key in on him.

Take all of the scents and call that you have, throw them in the middle of the road and jump on them, they are about that good at "tricking" a deer that is not anywhere near you.

Start by doing some intense scouting. Locate rubs, scrapes, large prints, especially, large prints where the front hoof imprints seem to be wider than that of the rear, generally this indicates a larger, mature buck.

    Glass some fields.

Take this info and apply it to topo maps and arial images. Start to "think" like a spooky, old buck. Now, scout again(arial map in hand), and start to key in on his bedding areas.

Once you have done this, take into strong consideration the prevailing wind for this property, where the does bed, prefered food source and watering hole(s).

Then, glass some fields again. Start to log what the conditions are when you see the buck, wind direction, temp, time, amount of deer in the field and where he enters(may enter differently based on wind direction).

After you've done this..Calculate, with this recently gained intel, a few possible ambush locations. Then, hang a stand.

During this time of year, rut, those doe beds you found when scouting(^above^), find an area between them and take note of their[doe] trails. Try to locate a very faint trail running perpendicular to the doe trails...Look for scrapes in these "intersection".

Get down wind and hang a stand. Dont call to a deer that you dont see. Meaning, blind calling may force a deer(that you havnt seen yet on this hunt) that is already closing in, to redirect downwind and close on teh location he heard the call from, thus, busting you, and, making us read a post about a buck you "almost" killed and if you should buy scent blocker..

Cant beat the boots on the ground approach. This is HUNTING, not, sit and wait for a deer to maybe walk by.

    Good luck..
