    Hi,

Looking at the Hoyt Axius Alpha. It has a maximum draw length of 30”. But my draw length is 30.4”

I’ve never handled or shot one, but should this work ok? I really hope the .4” isn’t going to force me into a long draw type bow

You should be fine and able to cut the difference with Dloop or release.
How did you figure out your DL ? Via formula or at a shop?

Great, didn’t even think of the release factor

I had my wife measure middle finger to middle finger and then I divided 76” by 2.5

is that the correct method ?

Or tip to tip -15 ÷ 2 but you get to the same in the end. That's one hell of a wing span. Besides double checking her tape work I would say you are good to go.

That method gets you in the ball park, but isn't accurate to .4" necessarily and it is generally for when you plan to attach your release right to the string. A d-loop will easily take a 1/2" off that.
I measure a bit over a 28" draw with that method, but with a d-loop I find that 27.5" draw feels comfortable and allows me to shoot with proper form.
I think that bow will be able to be adjusted to your draw length (DL) just fine.
The absolute best thing you can do when just starting out is to watch some Dudley videos or similar on youtube and ensure you start shooting with proper form (correct DL is a huge part of that) BEFORE you develop bad habits that will be hard to break.
