A lightweight quiet climber is needed for public land. last year I scouted and area, saw good sign, went straight to the truck got my climber and killed a doe at 11 yards later that evening. One thing about public land is you need to have several places to go cause you don't want someone in the only spot you have for the day. Lots of scouting and don't tell anybody if you see deer, at least down here they will in your spot the next day. Also the ranger's or landscape crew might have some good ideas of where the deer like to move. Good luck, any deer off public land is a trophy.

I don't hunt public land but I would definitely not leave a stand out there. My suggestion is also a climbing stand. I have a Summit Viper SS that is quiet and extremely light...It is not my favorite climber but would be ideal in your situation for having to pack in and out.....There is no way though I would leave anything out there though.....

Most places you can't leave a stand out. My advice is to figure out what public land you're planning on hunting and then, 1) find out the rules and 2) look at the likely spots for a stand.

I use a climber for my public land hunting. It does limit you a bit... but for me, it beats having to put up sticks and a hang on every trip out. (but I'm kind of a wimp) :)

You have this same thread posted in another section too. For the area that you are looking to hunt I think a set of sticks and stand are better. I know a climber is great for alot of areas but where you are looking to hunt you are really going to limit yourself. Remember that you are not allowed to cut or break branches off so you can only go as high as the lowest branch with a climber. And in Illinois you are not allowed to leave stands on public property.

And i leaning towards using a LW stand and muddy sticks just so im not limited on where i can hunt. and these two look like they would make a good combo. anyone use this combo?
