I have a custom 4 pin slider from Black gold. I hate pin clutter but I like to practice long ranges. So now I am set up for 20-50 yards with the ability to slide my 50 out to 100. What's not to like? As far as the effectiveness of your pins above or below your slider after adjusting.... That just takes some playing
For a multi pin slider, you sight your 3 pins in for 20, 30, and 40yds, your 3rd pin then becomes your slider, your tape will read from 40-100 approximately. Meaning you slide it to 50yds on your tape and your 3rd pin is now set for 50yds.
Yes, however keep in mind that with all the muti pin slider with the exception of the XR2 all the pins move, in other words the entire housing moves. So if your set up 20-30-40 and you move your bottom pin to 60, your top pins are no longer 20 and 30....just something to keep in mind in reference to a couple posts above seems to be some confusion.
I was emailing HHA today and they recommend that with there sight the top pin be used as the slider, so then it would leave the bottom 2 not on. I could probably figure out where the two would hit if I dialed the top one back to 60 , it would take some trial and error to figure out how where the next pins would be hitting. Until that's figured out the other pins are pretty much useless Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Got my optimizer sighted in today and I love it. I was smacking arrows the first time I used it. Are you definite on a multi pin now or are you still considering a single pin?
I'm pretty set on the multi pin, I'm probably going to go with the HHA because if do decide to go back to a single pin in the future I can just buy a new head instead of a whole new sight. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yeah that's a really cool feature on the HHA's. I can do the same but vice versa since I went with the single pin.
Oh and the sight was crazy easy to set up. Took me probably 10 minutes to dial in at 20 and 40 and then pick the tape.
Having shot multi-fixed pins, multi-adjustable pins and now a single-adjustable pin over the past few years I would say that as a whitetail hunter here in the Midwest the single-adjustable pin has been my favorite. In Dusto's scenarios out West where both hunters and animals are moving quite a bit I can see the multi-pin slider being a more viable option. However in my case I rarely, if ever, shoot over 30 yards at a whitetail. In fact, most of my shots are sub 20 yards. Having a single bright pin to focus on eliminates me having to worry about which pin to focus on. And does HHA still make a multi-pin adjustable sight? I know they used to but wasn't sure they still did? When I shot the CBE Tek Hybrid I always used the bottom pin as the floater, but that's just me. I suppose you could do it either way (top or bottom) just be sure to set your floating pin back to the home position before your next shot or you could be looking for that arrow in a field somewhere. :D
Only thing with the HHA's is I have noticed he 20-60 to be much more accurate Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
Yeah that's what I heard as well but my local range has a 50 yard indoor range so I had to do 20 and 40. I live in a subdivision so I don't really have anywhere to get out to 60 yards around my house.
Oh yeah that's understandable. I have an outdoor range by my house that's out to 120+ the state set aside a huge field for archery! you just bring your own target Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
I understand what you're saying and it makes a lot of sense, for me i used a single pin this year and I would prefer 3 fixed pins but I also like to shoot longer distances for practice and fun, I can do that with a 3 pin slider. As far as the multi pin from HHA goes I found a brush fire fx sight (3 pin) head which i will use and I would buy a dial frame from them and just combine the two and bingo 3 pin adjustable sight. Thats pretty much *** backward from what most other sight company and their instructions will tell you.... Two really good reasons not to follow that advise is ...first you losing the most adjustment range. By moving the top pin that you have set say at 20 now down to say 80 yards its that much more travel/adjustment you have to dial into it... The second reason why you shouldn't use your top pin as the floater is in BackCountry's post.....By moving your bottom pin you then can learn were your other pins fall yardage wise above that..... for example you have three pins dialed in 20-30-40.....you float the bottom pin down to 50....now you top pins are MUCH more likely to be closer to 30-40. Think about doing the above and floating your top pin from 20 down to 60? were does that leave your bottom two pins? The pin gap they were set at (30-40) will be now where near a pin gap for say 70-80. Do yourself a favor up from and disregard their advise an make you bottom pin the floater.
Yeah I agree they said it can be done either way but what they "recommend" was the top pin. The only thing would be to figure out the best way to set up the dial sight to make the tape work out, I'm drawing a blank on that part since you sight in at 20 and 60 to make the tape work. Yeah I was soo excited because it's only 15 minutes from my house. And it's free. Can't get much better than that Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
Go the sight below, Steve has couple of great videos that will help you with the set up. They are for a CBE but you can apply the basics of muti pin/ mover-able sight adjustment to any other sight. There is one that deals with tape selection also. http://backcountryhunter.net/?p=13
Thanks I appreciate it, I will check it out once I get to my computer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Trial, I just watched the videos and they really helped out. I think I will be good to go on setting it up now once I get it.
