Does anyone know off a web site I can go to to learn the correct way to grunt a buck into my shooting range?
If anyone wants to add to this....the process when snort weezing...do you grunt first..or afterwards...im gonna give it a week or two..but my buddy said he had a deer come within 10 yards and snort weez at him....
Grunt first. Gr8 asked me to do a video tutorial on calling. I'm not going to do a "how to" video but more of a "what's worked for me" video over the last 30 (almost) years. The first thing I do when I see a buck that's not coming and I want to come is to simply contact grunt. It's just a short burst. (brrraaap) and I watch his reaction. Sometimes they stop dead and look, sometimes they don't hear it. If they look, I give them a softer grunt as they are VERY good at exactly pin pointing the sound. If they don't look, I give one just as loud of not louder. Many times (not all) that's all it takes and they walk in. I consider it, taking the deers temperature unquote. If they still haven't decided to come I may give them a third grunt but in the opposite direction to appear as if the sound is moving. Grunt calls don't always work but when they do it's like retrieving a line and reeling them right in. I've called them from over 200 yards to shots and I've had them completely ignore me. Rarely though it has happened I've had them up tail and run but again, this has been a very rare occurrence. Most of the time, they'll simply ignore it. Don't be afraid to through in some contact bleats as if your mimicking the "Can" call. Here's a website with some calls and sounds. Deer Vocalizations:
sorry to take your thread bud..that wasnt my attention..just adding to your discussion....i would like to know what guys think about this topic..instead of starting two separate ones..
I also do alot of blind calling with great success. I'll grunt several times (making sure that they hear me) and repeat every 15 minutes or so. I'm amazed at the success I've had with this. Just remember, that buck "thinks" there is another buck close by. Once he comes in, he will be looking hard for that other buck.
Thanks for the advise. I will try grunting this weekend and see what happens. It sounds like it is a hit or miss type of deal.
Yeah....it is hit and miss. However, we are getting very close to the time where I have great success grunting in bucks. If you don't have one already...get yourself a grunt tube capable of producing LOUD grunts. I think a lot of the times bucks cannot hear a typical grunt call. Heck...I've had them forty yards away and not acknowledge the call until several grunts later. I have the MAD buck growl call (I don't use the growl) and it makes excellent loud grunts. Good luck and let us know how you did!
