Look for used Canon Vixia HF S-series (S10, 100, 20, 200) on eBay. I just got an S100 in great condition for $325.

Gotta agree with the other guys, I picked up a canon vixia hf s21 last fall on ebay for good price. Didn't get to use it much last season but the little I did it worked really good. Was able to take some good footage with it even though the camera was all I had, slowly getting everything else tho.

THIS, I went with the VIXIA HFR400 not too long ago and think its a great choice for starting out, like I am. Great price, great quality, and very small and compact in size. I put a wrap around mount from Campbells on mine with a Audi Technica Pro-24 shotgunmic. Just need a new fluid head now and should be set, gunna go with a Manfrotto 128RC I think. The only thing I have to say I am not happy with is there is no LANC connection for a remote, but there are other VIXA models out there that accept a remote I believe. Good luck!!!

I like my sony handi-cam. Small, fits easily in my pack and is very light.
