I have countless photos but I am going on 2 SEASONS with not 1 harvest. I'm hunting the right wind and staying scent free. I know that it's called hunting not killing but dang 2 SEASONS is to much for my family to go without meat
Please tell us more. Are you not seeing deer in bow range or not seeing deer at all? I got bow-skunked last year making several rookie mistakes but I saw deer and pigs . Tell us more about the problem and we might be able to help.
I am not seeing deer while in the stand just pictures. I'm getting around 20 pictures a day, there's consistent movement but when I go out to hunt I don't see anything.
Could be you're spooking them on the way in or while getting into the stand. The hunt starts as soon as you pull into your parking spot. Turn your lights off as soon as you can, don't slam the door on the truck, don't park too close to your stand, ninja walk your way to the stand. If you work up a sweat, you're walking too fast. Don't shine your flashlight all around, only at your feet, and only sparingly. Or, are you fidgeting in the stand? Are you silhouetted and easy to pick off? Are you getting night time pictures in a wide open space and trying to hunt that in daylight? Deer like tight edges, unlike most outdoor programs seem to indicate. What type of habitat are you hunting and getting pics from? Are you hunting over bait? Deer can pattern putting out bait and hunting over bait almost as good as hogs. Is your wind perfect for your shooting lane but flawed for where the deer want to come from? I expect I spooked more deer without even knowing it last year from a flawed setup like this. Tell us more.
This helped become a better bowhunter and is just great knowledge. I would also recommend listening to the Wired to Hunt podcast. https://www.amazon.com/Treestand-st...Mwebp_QL65&dpPl=1&dpID=51NV+5NvPDL&ref=plSrch
Where do you live? I'd suggest trying to find a hunting mentor. Someone that might take you along with them and show you the ropes. It's hard to figure it all out on your own and sometimes having a more experienced hunter around makes all the difference in your growth as a hunter. If you dont know anyone check out Facebook groups for your state. I see guys posting in the Ohio group asking for help and usually someone will live close to that hunter.
Deer are pretty smart... You could have all the deer in the world but if you let them know you are there, they won't show themselves. Do you hunt the wind? Whats your scent control method? Are you stands in good locations so you aren't in the complete open? How are your access routes, are you walking through bedding area on the way and spooking everything off? Are the pictures in the day light or night? Is it private or public land?
I hunt a old dried pond the deer move in off a ridge funnel. It's private land I own it only for hunting, I use code blue scent killer and my way is is quick easy and I stay undetected. The pictures are of all times of day normally 8-9 am 5-6pm and 2-4 am same 3 does and one buck
All i can say it took me 30 years to kill my first deer with a bow!! I hear you, stay with it, it'll happen!!
Guarantee they know you are there if it is the same deer. Take a week off and enter from a completely different angle. How much property? Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Little room for pressure. But still good enough to kill something. Any public land nearby so you can still hunt while you let the property cool off and in between hunts? Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
All great advice. If you are getting 20 pics a day bit not seeing anything while hunting then the deer know when you are there and when you aren't. Like V.S. suggested is there another way you can approach your stand?
