Hello everyone. I found out a few weeks ago that it is illegal to use real deer urine when deer hunting in Virginia because they are trying to keep CWD from spreading throughout the state. I am needing to know if there are any good lures that uses synthetic instead of real deer urine?

It all works the same honestly none of it smells like the real thing sometimes a deer will react and add to the myth.

bottle your own.. seriously! Conquest scents has evercalm and others that come in a deoderant stick solid, so they are not liquid, but you'd have to check on legality with that.

As far as "urine " goes. Don't bother. Deer urine is in the woods by the gallon, put there by the deer themselves and many hunters using Walmart junk. I have said this on a few related threads very recently, try using a pre-orbital lure. I usually put one spray on an over hanging limb once every 2 weeks through out spring and summer. By fall, the deer have taken it over and I don't have to waste any $$$ on deer urine. If you feel you must use a "urine", some synthetics that I have had reaction to is Buck Fever and 50/50 Fresh Scrape from Deer Quest.

I am in Va as well and Ever calm is a urine based scent. I called them as i had been using it and had a collection of the stuff. As i understand what VA did was ban any body parts and or any fluid from a deer.I think the pre-orbital gland stuff will get you in trouble as well.I have gotten some Fitzgerald deer dander that they tell me their product line is synthetic and have been looking at top secret synthetic. I have had success with Tinks 69 and Ever calm in the past If you find something that works post it up
Good luck let the rut begin :nana:

I have guys that hunt around me that rattle for 5 minute sequences with 170 inch antlers when a 120 inch buck is a brute around here. Those same guys also dump a gallon of doe urine on a drag line and toot on their grunt tubes for minutes on end. I find it beneficial to get in quiet, climb high, and don't use any scents. I don't want anything on alert.

It's been said before but I'll say it again.

Step 1. Take stick and clear the ground

Step 2. Pee in it yourself.

    Step 3. Kill buck

But seriously. They will take it over at this point. Don't waste your money on deer urine.

One person says it works, another says it is garbage...who knows. If it makes you feel like you have an advantage, go for it. I've seen bucks react positively to it as well, including a real bruiser. My advice would be to try the synthetic stuff out there...lord knows there is enough of it popping up in the various sporting good shops now.

I have had young deer follow a drag rag. I don't know if it's because of the urine or just curious about a new smell. Peeing in scrapes has worked well for me.
