I have Pse omen max at 55 lb and 27.5 draw my arrows finished are 286 shooting 326 ish with 67 KE. I know the whole heavy arrow but wouldn't this work?
If it's 286 grains with the point then that seems really really low for hunting. I would say 370 grains and up is a good weight. Some people use light arrows but I think that's way way to light. Mine are about 391 grain and that is even to light for some people.
Just to add to my first comment. It not as much about KE but more about momentum and with a row that light you would probably only get a few inches of penetration with an arrow under 300 grains. With your draw length and weight a heavy arrow is probably the way to go.
That's just not true. With a cut in contact fixed head a pass through is very likely. Properly set up youth bows producing far less KE and momentum get full pass throughs. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
You both are essentially correct. If you hit an arrow with no major bones then he would definitely get a pass through since hes shooting very fast. BUT, lets say he hits a solid bone. With that arrow being so light he will have next to nothing when your talking about momentum and bone penetrating power. If your confident you can hit where you are aiming then by all means use a lightweight arrow if that is what you like. Keep in mind, more guys will tell you that you are waaay to light versus the amount of guys that say its fine. I have the same draw weight as you and my opinion is that you are too light. (Is 286 with the fieldpoint/broadhead? just to make sure) If so, I think the lightest I would go for my setup is about 375. I'm currently shooting 392 grain Easton Axis.
I am curious what arrow you are shooting that it finished that light if that 286 was finished weight with a point installed. That is dangerously close to the 5 grain per pound minimum bow manufacturers recommend. I would definitely make sure you are shooting a cut on contact head if you are stuck on using those arrows and pick your shot wisely.
