I killed my first deer with a bow when i was 8 and my bow was only at 35#. I used Beman arrows as well i cant remember the name, they were some youth model. Also if i am not mistaken I used a Magnus buzzcut broad head. Shot a 4 point at 12 yards and didn't have any issues. Think it will be fine just as long as he doesn't hit shoulder. Good luck and have fun! Some of my best memories were learning how to bow hunt with my old man.
MN changed ours to 30lbs awhile ago for whitetail Anyway If your son shoots a deer in vitals with that setup at 15 yards the deer is toast
I ran some preliminary numbers on the arrow speed calculator, and from what it told me, he doesn't have nearly enough of anything. But from just watching him shoot the 3 d target at 12 yds it seems plenty. His arrows are getting about 3" of penetration on the target. this is with field points. Anyways, I can't sit here worry too much about it, I need to either let him or not.... heck we may not even see a deer so it all maybe moot... but if we do and it is in range??? ahhh....parenting!!!
Best advice I can give is: "don't get him started getting setup 3 days before the hunt". This is what summers are for.
I'll say go for it, It might not be a perfect set up but nothing in bowhunting is. Our goal is to get our selves as prepared as possible, I am going to work on the assumption you have done that with him and you and he are confident in his ability. I think (roughly, and my opinion isnt worth much) that his set up is lethal and will get the job done. My vote go get after it!
Dude he was set up this summer..... nothing has changed..he just now has had the chance to go. I am not a rookie. I have been doing this for 25 years. Very successfully I might add. I just want to be sure...
I actually just looked up Texas' regulations and we no longer have a weight limit for compounds, recurves, and longbows. So maybe all of these states reducing or dropping the limits is saying a little bit.

He is shooting very well out to 13 yards. his arrows seem to be quick and hit fairly hard. The one thing that has me concerned is his Draw length..it's only 21"....that may be holding him back from an ethical kill...but I have no idea how much that will affect it
