going to cabelas. Going to buy a standard frame glock.... model 22... 40 caliber. $529.99 for new or $428 for a refurbished. Was a police issue in Kansas that was sent back to Glock when they updated. Glock refurbished/checked it over. Cabelas has a few of them left. The guy I talked to said they are in good shape... little holster wear but didn't looked to be shot much.

I've gone that route before and bought my S&W 45 ACP that was a police issue. I have been very happy with that deal.

I forgot to ask him how many clips came with it though. New you get 2 15 shot clips. A clip runs $35. If the used has only one... I will go new.

Good deal with the used if it comes with 2 clips or not ?? Heading out the door in 1.5 hours. Talk to me !!!! Thanks !!

Even if you only get one clip and had to buy another you are still saving $66. If the refurb is in good shape I would go that route and buy the extra clip.

If no clips come with the refurb then I would buy new.

$66 will buy me 3 boxes of shells for it. If it comes with 2 clips I will darn near be up to 5 boxes of shells. I like your thinking !! I don't know if they will come down in price or if they are firm at the $428. Will have to wait until I get there. Hopefully walk away with 2 clips for that price.

Glock fanboy...wifes best friend works for them right here near the house. The refurbs are always fine, as long as the price is right for you I would not give it another thought. I bought a few new, and after a few weeks I have holster rub anyway, so I would not worry about that.

I carry the Springfield 9MM XD Sub-Compact 3 inch and the .40 in a Crossbreed holster. Both are very concealable. Both separate I got New under $500.00 with 3 magazines

You may want to just get a Glock in some areas of Virginia they go under $500 up to $550 with 3 mags...Don't settle on that deal, because in my opinion that's no deal at all.

If you want to carry a concealed spar magazine go to Safari Land Horizontal concealed pouch.....it goes for $15 to $20 dollars. A must have if you carry concealed.

I am not worried about holster wear. Since it was sent back to Glock that is piece of mind also. Have you shot the model 22 ?? If so what did you think of it ??

Also... my daughter ( 27 ) is interested in shooting/protection. What caliber/model would you recommend for her keeping in mind... she would carry it in her purse should she get a CC permit. Thanks !!!

I am limited to buying at Cabelas. Gift card so it isn't costing me anything but still trying to find the best deal between used and new. I am not looking for a very concealable pistol as this is for tromping around while shedhunting, hunting, scouting and such.

On the other hand with my oldest daughter... she would be looking for something concealable in the near future. What are your thoughts on that ??? Thanks !!

I have a Bersa Thunder .380 with a Crimson Trace handgrip. She might like that.

I agree with Bruce The .380 are becoming a very popular defense gun. Most are small and compact and easy to conceal.

For concealed or tromping through the woods The XD .40 is an exceptional weapon for 4 legged and 2 legged critters. I've recently bought my sister a Ruger LCR .38 and a Glock 26 she loves both weapons. She recently changed the mind of a car jacker with the .38 Ruger.

    It comes down 3 things..

1)Is it comfortable for her to shoot
2)When do she plan on carrying it.
3)Do she have the will to use it.

1% of all gun owners don't have the willingness to use a weapon on a assailant and will surrender the weapon to an unarmed intruder when approached.

My sister is about 5 ft 115lbs.....but when she said she drew that weapon the POS started crying and begging her not to shoot him. She yell get the hell away from me. All she seen was back of his feet.

One other thing practice, practice and practice some more. View below video

Beretta Cheetah in .380 in a Crossbreed Supertuck with the Combat Cut. If you don't get it in the ombat cut the leather will hinder you from a quick draw..

    Just my experience only.

I'm a .45 fan and also a 1911 fan. For your daughter, the .380 is a good easy to shoot caliber. If she is a smaller person and doesn't/won't shoot much, I'm always a fan of the .22, something anyone can shoot with no hesitation.

As to new vs used......... go with the best bang for the buck. (once you leave the store, they are all used.)

No quick draw here, we can't carry in MD unless you can convince the State Police you need to and that is usually not gonna happen. It is easily accessible a step from my bed though, along with the Beretta .40, the Judge(000 buck) and my Grandfathers .22 pistol.

I bought the same exact pistol from cabelas(glock 40 model 22), it was a refurbished law enforcement trade in, comes with a new barrel, two magazines, a lock, case and a speed loader. They were having a special for $350.I bought the pistol a holster some ammo(100rounds) and a cleaning kit and i think I paid 125 out of pocket between gift cards and cabelas points I think i did pretty good.I bought it a couple of months ago and have yet shoot it so i cannot comment on that part, but I have not heard alot of complaints with glock in general so i am not worried about how it shoots.

everytime I make plans to go shoot something comes up, after being MIA from the family for the past few months bow hunting, getting away to shoot has not been a major priority. Hopefully I will get to it soon.

I have a mini Firestorm...same gun as the Bersa thunder compact in 9mm 3.25in barrel and 10+1 capacity and it shoots great...I've shot 60 rds without cleaning to check cycling and no problems and shot a box of RN lead with out a problem...good accuracy - I can keep 10rds in 8in circle at 20yds...I may be giving it to my mother for p.p. gun...I prefer 9mm for the ammo prices vs .380 and .40 but these guns are available in those calibers and I think 25acp. This I would definitely recommend for economical, reliable, compact carry gun.

First off... thanks for all the replies. You guys are great for giving great info. Really apperciate it !!!!

Now for the good and bad...

They had 4 of the used police issued Glock 22 on hand. Prices ranged from $428 to $449. All came with two clips and hard case. All looked to be in good shape with normal wear in the right places with the $449 having the least wear. The only down side I could see was that you couldn't mount a laser sight on the bottom front of them as they were older glocks ( no groves ) if a guy ever wanted to.

They had one other used Glock 22C that they just bought off a guy. $449 and it was in immaculate shape other then slight wear on the front sight from being holstered. It was a busy place but when I had the guy pull that one out... 2 of the other guys behind the counter wandered over and we all proceeded to drool over it. It has the compensated barrel ports ( $50 value over the standard glock ). Less recoil/ getting back on target faster which was sweet. It had the laser groves so newer then the other 4 used Glocks.

We took it a part... it was clean and well taken care of. It came with 3... 15 shot clips and hard case. It has night sights. Felt great in hand. I bought it !! :nana: I do have a 30 day warranty on it. If anything is wrong with it... Cabelas will send it to Glock and pay for them to fix it. I bought 350 rounds of ammo for it... so I will be shooting it alot in the next 30 days.

    The bad news...

Since I bought it in Minnesota and they have stupid *** gun laws thought up by some very, very stupid people... I could not carry it out of the store since I live in North Dakota. It needs to be shipped to Grand Forks with a bonded carrier. Since it was the weekend... they can't ship it until Monday. I will be able to pick it up Monday in Grand Forks. They have to ship it about 3 miles !!!!! The shipping and the other place's handling fee ( $25 ) is a wash though since Cabelas can't charge me sales tax since they don't have a store in North Dakota and I will be filling out all the paper work on the North Dakota side. STUPID... STUPID... STUPID !!!!!!! Thank God it only is handguns that you have to go though this process. Rifles or Muzzle loaders I can buy and carry out of a Minnesota store. Did I mention how STUPID it was !!!!

Oh I did also picked up a holster for it. A Black Hawk serpra concealment holster. I have the ammo... a holster... a very itchy trigger finger and no frigging gun. Monday can't get here soon enough !!!!

Again thanks for all the advice and info !!!!

    Tim
