I am looking at buying 3 trail cams. I dont really want to spend more then $150 on each one. And I need long battery life. They will be set up for a few months before I am back in the states to check them. Flash or inferred is fine with me. Thanks for the help!
Go over to ArcheryTalk in the game cam section (or even here, because there's a few of us homebrew guys around), and ask one of the regulars there (buckshot, Xringer, etc,). Most of them will build cams for guys, and they can certainly build one for the price range. You are going to be hard pressed to get a better quality cam with long battery life than a homebrew at that price point.
The Truth Cam 60 has pretty good reviews. I really like the battery life that you get from the thing... Pretty good and no white outs is a big selling point for me.
I have two of the Primos Truth Cams 45 and the auto focus is unreal, I actually have 2 different pictures of moose mouthing the camera and the focus came in on the eye. also a bunch at different distances that are super clear like these fellas with the Home Bru cams. They retailed at 149 Canadian,so it would be cheaper in the States. Best of luck with your purchase and good luck hunting. Rocky
The reviews i have read say the primos are loud click when they trigger. I have two wildviews but only work on a bait pile.. too slow any other time and they eat batterys in a week I have one moultrie also has slow trigger speed and eats d batterys in a week also has a lot of empty pics. one wild game that will not take pics when you put a sd card in it and eats a set of c batterys in 2 days and has very slow trigger speed. two bushnells that i just put out that are new one is a aa battery trophy cam and other has d batterys Before you buy a cam look at it's reviews just google the model number and you will find reviews for the money i thought i was saving by going to the local wall-e i could of bought a good cam.
Thanks Ultramax, I have read the reviews about the Primos loud click. I have a Moultire I bought about 2 years ago and was going to buy a few more of them but I have been reading such bad reviews about them and there customer service. So I am going to stay away from them. For my budget I think the Primos is my best bet. I dont want to spend more then $150. And I am going to buy from Cabelas because they have suck good return policies and the Truth Cam 46Ir is on sale for $129. They say the batterie life on them is pretty good. I work in Iraq and am gone for 3.5 months at a time then get a month at home. So I am going to put them out on two different ranches I worked on that dont get hunted and are loaded with pigs, deer, and turkey. I know no cam is going to last that long. So we will see what happens!
I know they are a touch over your budget, but the Trophy Cam is all I'll buy at this point. Size, image (video) quality, trigger speed, battery life... all great. I use rechargable AA batts, and still get months of life, even in the winter.
I just bought 2 refurbished moultrie I-45's from their website at a reduced cost and if you buy one the second one is half priced. They still have the factory warranty. They both look like brand new and work great.
I have a Primos (the $130 one) and a Cuddeback Capture, and I definitely like the Primos better. I just cant get the Cuddeback to take many pictures, where the Primos takes about twice as many
Just my .02 But I bought a WildGame cam last year at Walmart for $50.00 and it works like a champ. 4 c batt last about 2-3 weeks ave. about 400 pics during that time frame it does have a slow trig speed which does produce some blank pics of my area but for the money I have no problems with it. One of these days I hoping to get the bank for a cuddeback.
