I'm heading to BPS tomorrow to pick up a new arrow rest. I currently have the mantis rest and it sucks. Fletchings hit it no matter which way the nock is positioned. I'm on the fence about getting a simple whisker biscuit or going with a nap or qad drop away. I was almost 100% going with a drop away until I ran into a problem shooting today. I was out practice shooting when my draw stop became loose causing me to over draw my bow. I was wondering what would've happened if I had a drop away rest with a cord that was over pulled. Don't with something like this to happen causing the rest to break. I'm looking at something with full capture and was leaning towards the qad if I did go drop away. Need some opinions, should I keep it simple with a whisker biscuit or invest in the drop away and hope my draw stop doesn't come loose again? Would an accidental over draw even do any damage to the rest? Thanks for the input.

Ripcord Code Red, QAD HDX, or alternatly look at NAP.

My boyfriend has a drop away rest, sorry I dont recall the brand off hand. Overall he raves about the darn thing...that is until he doesnt quite get to the let off point during his draw, his draw hitches forward, he heaves to full draw only to discover that the drop away rest dropped away with his anticipation of the let off point. (Young buck mistake...dont tell him I said that...) I on the other hand perfer my whisker biscuit, and my hostage rest. I have read of other people having to rotate or replace the bristle pads, but I have not had any problem up to this point. I shoot quite a bit between target practice, shooting leaque, and hunting. My biggest pro for liking the hostage and biscuit rests are because I know whatever situation I am letting an arrow fly from, I do not have to worry about setting or re setting my rest. Less movement=less chance of being busted!

id recommend the QAD hd pro for the warranty alone mate. ive had both 6 and 7 inch brace height bows, put through 4" fletch on a 6" brace which sees it at static having the fletch overhang the rest on the QAD, and even then, without even considering where the nock/odd fletch is at, there was never any contact when i followed the manufacturers recommendations for setup.

i can only speak for myself and the bows ive owned though and if you have a problem simply claim the warranty and get a brand new one. I recently took them up on the warranty and got a brand newy as after 3 years and 10's of thousands of shots the rest got a bit sticky. I dont always treat my gear with overcare and ive found the qad hd pro to perform flawlessly and take accidental hits and still work well.

Having said all of that, i think that a whicky will also do the job and its a good thought to have one in your day pack incase a problem occurs, as they are fast to put on and tune, be aware also though that whicky's are not all squeaky clean bits of equipment themselves, bits of mud and grass's, twigs can get stuck and also damage them or possibly affect a shot.

Just my thoughts, hope they help all the best Doz

Thanks for the replies. Would an over draw damage the rest if the cord was pulled to far? After not noticing my draw stop came lose and pulling the string back further than expected I've just been curious how this situation would affect a drop away with a cord.

Hmmm I have an assassin that had an adjustable draw stop and has yet to move on me. Do you have it bolted in nice and tight now? If you tightened it up nice I don't see it happening again

I have the NAP apache ...good rest except loading from the top is a pain in the ***...I recently used a quad hd and liked it better...like the fact that it's stays in the load position....probably
switching over to that before the season

When I was choosing a rest I was between a nap Apache or QAD HDX and the set and forget feature of the QAD is amazing no need to worry about the Arrow falling off the rest no matter what!

Put some blue loctite on the draw stop screw.

Most high end rest will do the job. I like the QAD for hunting. I really liked how the spot hog whammy performed but it was loud .

    My opinion:

    Fall aways
Quietest -NAP Apache (and only 1 moving part)
Compact and durable - Ripcord Code Red

    Non fall away
    Bulletproof for hunting - WB

I've noticed a lot of people are fans of the NAP Apache on this site, but I just use the simple biscuit :D

Ended up going with the qad. But looks like I won't be shooting it for awhile. Bass pro installed the rest with the timing set wrong. Didn't realize were it was supposed to be until after I got home and read the instructions. The directions said it should be full up within the last inch of the draw. Bps had it full up 3" before full draw. The tied the cord in and when I went to cut it loose I frayed the cable string a little. 2nd time bps has adjusted something wrong. Off to the archery shop tomorrow to see about getting the cable replaced. Hopefully I can replace the cable by itself without having to change the string.

This is probably the biggest issue people have with the QAD rest. Is it so darn hard to read the instructions and do it right?

Good thing you caught it. This causes contact issues as well as damage to the rest.
