Looking at a 2020 Hoyt PowerMax for 450 is this a fair price to pay? Need a new boy because my DL is to short on my other one I’m a 30.4 and this Hoyt has a DL of 30. upload_2024-1-26_23-10-35.png upload_2024-1-26_23-10-58.png

I think that's roughly what that bow was new out the box, so I'm not sure I'd pay full price on a used one. That's just me tho. Have you shot one?

Only advice I'll give you is, shoot lots of different bows in your price range and settle on what feels best to you.

Good luck and have fun with it.

I'm not a Bear guy but for quality low end bows I have heard they are good.

The new Darton bow that retails at 699 is a winner.
Stable platform, all high end features. 7 plus brace height, pretty quick and comes in at its IBO rating.
Just a solid bow at any price and steal at the retail price. I seen places selling them for 649 also.

    This is just my opinion.

I'm a hoyt lover. This bow is a entry level bow. Nothing wrong with that ofcourse because it will kill just as well as a flagship bow. BUT This bow is 4 years old !!!

Before I paid $450 for a entry level 4 year olf bow, I'd look for a used flagship. For a Hoyt ? And your draw length ? I'd look for a clean Nitrum 34 with Z5 cams. It will cost the same !!! You get as good of a shooter bow as money can buy at any price.

    Just my take.

Other suggestions here, Bear and Darton are both awesome bows. Lotsa value for the money.

Haven't seen it yet, but it's awesome that Darton is back in the game, baby.
Time for me to get a new #1. Definitely going to MI to check one out.

Sorry Mike you’re wrong. This this years bow and has just about every feature that most flag ships have with a 700 price tag. There is nothing entry about it.

OP said it’s a 2020 model. Jimmy, trust me, it’s nowhere near Hoyt’s flagship. Starting with the all important limb pockets. As you know, where consistency begins.

A fine bow as is the Torrex. The Power Max is a deleted bow this year by the way.

IMHO a 4 year old mid to lower level bow versus a Hoyt Nitrum Z5 34 is a no brainer. Nitrum Z5 cam 34 is one of Hoyt’s all time shooter platforms.

AT has them regularly for sub $500. There’s not much comparison. Shoot both and see. Riser design to limbs and limb pockets.

Couldn’t agree more ! New Darton is awesome looking. Been out of the country and just got back. Headed to shoot one this week before making my final decision for this years bow.

Yeah I wouldn’t buy the four year old Hoyt.
    Agree

I was thinking he was looking at this years Darton they have one that retails for 699, it’s an amazing bow. Really really nice and at that price it’s a steal

    Oh, well that makes sense.
I must've been under a rock when this happened. Don't recall hearing it at the time.

From what I understand the flagship Darton still is under $1 G note. In todays market that’s a steal.

Plus did you see this years Darton ? It’s Fabulous looking !!!

Looks like PSE and Bowtech had a baby. I can’t wait to shoot it.

Last years first offering sans Tex Darlington were awesome but too much hand shock for me. This year I’m told by my bow tuner, who’s shooting one himself, the bow is unreal.

Hey! It sounds like you're on the hunt for a new bow, and the 2020 Hoyt PowerMax seems like a good fit for your needs. The price at $450 seems quite reasonable, especially considering your specific draw length requirements. Just ensure the bow is in good condition and has been well-maintained. If possible, give it a test to feel how it handles. A bow that suits your draw length can significantly enhance your experience. Happy archery, and may you find the perfect bow for your next adventures!

I wouldn't pay $450 for that bow. As already stated, that was the price when it was new and bows do not hold their value.

As others have said, look for a quality flagship bow from a few years ago. I still shoot a 2014 Elite Energy 35 and it performs like I need it to.

Not to advertise for another forum, but Archerytalk has a classifieds section that is chalk full of much better bows than that Hoyt at that price or maybe even less.
