My dad sent me this pic this morning. He was on his way into his treestand and saw somthing in the water and as he got closer, he realized it was a buckl swimming the river. Now I know this is not unusual or anything, but the river he is swimming is the St. Johns and it is about a mile wide were he is swimming across. I have always heard stories of Deer crossing creeks and small rivers but this is something else. My dad let him walk when he reached land, didn't feel right shooting him after he had made that kinda swim. What would have you done if he was a shooter?

Not sure what I would do. You know he may not run too far after swimming that mile.

I would have let him go. That's not the way I want to take an animal.

Yeh I would let him go. Big or small buck, it wouldnt feel right to me to just wait by river until he comes out.

    A shooter is a shooter???

A friend sent me a similar picture last year. He was duck hunting and a really nice buck came swimming by.

He was a shooter for sure, just not a legal shooter, big difference.

My dad, brothers and I hunt the river swamp up and down the St Johns and I have killed a couple after them swimming a creek. But I wouldn't have it in my heart to shoot one after making it all the way across. Just on the fact he made it, becuase he probably swam by at leat 10-20 gators and they didn't get him.

It makes no difference to me whether the deer I kill just took a swim. A shooter buck is a shooter buck.

That would be a tough call. I would let him walk seems like he wouldn't have a fair chance after that swim!!!!

Yeah if you think about it, swimming a lake or walking a trail isnt to much of a difference. I guess the only thing is it cant run from you even though it knows you are there. Im pretty sure Im on the kill em team, would make a good story to tell people when I show them the mount.
