Hey guys. My friend has a tight budget for a set up bow ($500). Due to this, he's been shopping at cabelas/bass pro and obviously at this range he's buying at the low end. He's going to love bowhunting, of this I have no doubt, and I'd hate to see him get a bow that he wants to upgrade next year. He's got a new family, so his money is a little tight. That said, I know there are a lot of people on here that sell their bows after minimal use, for good prices. Basically he said he didn't like anything he shot except one that was "ok". If someone has a good bow, in good condition, that is within that price range (or close), please let me know. I'd have him go to the bow shop and test it out, and see how he liked it. Thanks to you that can help me out here. He's a good friend, was just my best man in my wedding, and lets me hunt on his ground if I want. I feel I owe it to him to try to get him a good bow for his price range (and maybe even chip a little in to help him in that regard).
Do you know his draw length? What poundage is he currently looking at? Which bow did he shoot that was "OK"? Is he right or left handed? Is the $500 just for the bow or is that total funds for a complete setup?
He's a righty. $500 complete. Waiting for text reply for draw, poundage, and the bow. I'd guess 60lbs and 28dl though. When I hear back I'll post it.
He confirms 60lbs, and it was a "diamond by bowtech". Obviously I'll have to wait to talk to him to get more information, as he didn't give the model or his draw length.
My buddy just bought a PSE Brute X and really likes it. he has good groups at 40 yards after a few shoots in the yard. it was $499 with a package that included everything but release and arrows. I have a mission that was the same type deal a few years ago and love it. I know mission has the same 499 deal package going on.
Yeah, I mentioned mission to him. I'm obviously a PSE Fan, but he said the ones he shot were a bit rough for him, not sure which those were. Still, a great bow a couple years old would still probably be a better bow for him. Apparently he was busy with the in-laws all day, as I never heard back from him again. Perhaps I'll give him a call tomorrow.
Got him to the archery shop today (instead of bass pro). He wasn't comfortable buying used, and I can understand that a little. He decided on the PSE Bow Madness. Said "I love this one", so like Harry Potter, the bow chose him. Gonna start shooting tomorrow.
