So I am just getting serious into bow hunting and was looking for a cheap bow to use. I got a Barnett Vortex Hunter. It is a "youth" bow. Now the bow shoots just fine and I have it sighted in, but does it make much of a difference between an adult bow?

    TIA

An adult bow will perform much better. Faster smoother and more shootable.

More poundage I would say out of an adult bow ??? If that bow is what I think, doesn't it only go up to 35 pounds? I bought that bow to start my lady out shooting last year and she couldn't draw much weight. Now I have it cranked down for her and its at roughly 35 lbs I believe.

Yes, better balance, more stability, better back wall, nicer grip, better valley, etc. all features that will make a bow easier to shoot consistently

I agree with above statements....Mission makes a good bow for the price. Also, bear, PSE, diamond, etc all with some decent RTS (ready to shoot) packages or can go the used route and look around for a good deal on a used Mathews or a Hoyt or something along those lines. Theres plenty of great options out there but I honestly think your best bet is to go to a pro shop and shoot all the bows within your budget to determine which is best for you. You'll get to see how each bow performs and what you like and dislike about the differences, so you can get a rig you shoot well and enjoy shooting! Hope everything works out in your search and good luck man!!! :tu:

Hello fellow Tennessean! When on a budget I agree w/ the above statements about buying used to get a next level bow for what you will pay for a mid line new bow. Now is a great time to get a deal on a 2013. Call around at your local archery shops and get you a deal! Big box stores are the last place I like to go, but Bass Pro at Opry Mills had about 6-7 closeouts yesterday.

Here's some bows from my local pro shop. . All these bows are ''ready to hunt packages''!

Ready-to-Hunt Compound Bow Packages for Men - Hunter's Friend

Click on any bow that you like and scroll down the page and you can pick what you want with the package.

Hunter's Friend is a great place and its only 38 miles from my home, but they're known worldwide!

I bought my Diamond Outlaw from them and the staff was great! . . I didn't order my bow, I went there and picked out which bow I wanted.

They will set it up, shoot the bow and even do a paper test! . . When I picked my bow up, I took it home and shot it and didn't even have to adjust anything! . . But, later on I adjusted the sight pins where I wanted them, and I never had to adjust my peep sight!

It may be different if you order a bow, because they had me to pull the bow back and they wrote down some stuff.

Ordering from Hunter's Friend can save you some money when you buy a bow package from them!

*I'm only using this bow package as an example.*

OK, Here's a Diamond Core R.A.K. bow package from Bass Pro Shops.

Diamond Core R.A.K. Compound Bow Package | Bass Pro Shops

It comes with: Three pin sight, arrow rest, quiver, wrist sling, peep, string loop, and 5'' stabilizer. . And the price is $449.99

Here's the same bow from Hunter's Friend.

2013 Diamond Core Ready-to-Hunt Compound Bow Package - Hunter's Friend

Notice that you can pick which sight and arrow rest you want, and you also get 6 arrows, you can pick which case you want, and which broadheads you want, and you get a release with it!

And the bow package deal is: $555.00 (setup, tuned, and delivered)

Just using that bow as an example, but if you search around. . You will find that Hunter's Friend saves you some money! :)

My first bow was a diamond outlaw, bought it from hunters friend cuz of the great deal but I never shot it in person. HUGE MISTAKE, the solo cam felt wierd at first but I got used to it, I started getting really accurate, but after a year of having it and shooting religiously problems started to appear. The idler cam is too shallow for the string. This summer alone the string derailed 3 times. Twice for no reason and the third time because the factory string loop broke, sending my peep and cable slide to the next county. The last incident caused me to have target panic which I never had a problem with before. I took the bow to my pro shop and the tech who restrung my bow said the outlaw and mission craze are the 2 wost bows for string derailment, thats when I bought the best bow on the market with the money from my summer job. I havent had a single problem with my insanity, I should have saved my money and bought a top line bow the first time.

    First of all,

    Welcome to Bowhunting.com.

You can derail every brand of bow if you try! :) . . I bought my Diamond Outlaw in 2012 and I've never had it happen to me!

How was you pulling the bow back ? . . If you keep your string level with the bow, it shouldn't derail.

    Here's a YouTube video. :D
